Arts and Economic Prosperity 6 Surveys Beginning
| |
|
Americans for the Arts is excited to announce the launch of Arts & Economic Prosperity 6 (AEP6), their sixth national study of the economic impact of the nonprofit arts and culture industry. Building on its 25-year legacy, the highly regarded Arts & Economic Prosperity series will once again document in unprecedented scope and detail the economic power that the arts and culture wield in 395 participating communities representing all 50 states and the District of Columbia—communities ranging in geography (Alaska to Florida to Maine to Hawaii), population (1,400 to 4.7 million), and population density (rural to large urban).
Organizations should expect to see information shortly about audience surveying that will be required in order for Delaware to participate in the study. Participation in this study is essential as the data results directly impact public funding through the monies provided to the Delaware Division of the Arts.

Mia Muratori
Established, Visual Arts: Painting
| |
Painter Mia Muratori knew that she wanted to be an artist from the time she was six years old. Though she carved out a career on Wall Street, Muratori “always painted or did some form of artwork . . . creating something that is meaningful to myself and others.” Her award-winning oil paintings (many measuring three feet by four feet and done on board) reflect what she sees around her day to day. But rather than seeking realistic depictions, for her, “abstract ideas and universal themes such as duality, opposites, absolutes, and illusion are best represented through abstract art.”

Maia Palmer
Emerging, Visual Arts: Works on Paper
| |
As a portrait artist, Palmer continues to use art to initiate communication – “my subject becomes my partner in conversation.” Much of her work has been portraiture of others, including a pandemic quarantine series of coloring-book portraits made “to create community from a safe distance.” But her Fellowship drawings feature Palmer as “my own subject, exploring how my identity has been altered by living with chronic migraine.” This work gifted the artist with a new type of community: “It has been affirming to have positive feedback from others who have reached out to me as fellow sufferers.”
