NY Tech Alliance Hosts BIANYS Annual Meeting Welcoming Reception

The NY Tech Meetup (NYTM) is the NY Tech Alliance signature event that has been a monthly staple for the NYC tech ecosystem since 2004. It is the world’s largest meetup group with over 62,000 members who have a common interest in learning from and helping one another. At each event, entrepreneurs, founders, CEOs, and their teams demo cutting edge and transformative tech, answer questions from attendees and network with all in a fun-filled, energetic space.
BIANYS teamed up with the NY Tech Alliance for the first evening of the Annual Meeting, encouraging member incubators to attend the NY Tech Meetup as our Welcoming Reception. During the event, startup companies from the NY tech ecosystem and specifically BIANYS' member incubators gave demo pitches of their companies, showcasing their research and development, and engaging in valuable feedback conversations.

NSF expands the National Innovation Network with five new I-Corps Hubs
|
|
The U.S. National Science Foundation today announced the addition of five new NSF Innovation Corps (I-Corps™) Hubs that will scale the NSF-led National Innovation Network, accelerating the translation of discoveries into new solutions that benefit society. Each I-Corps Hub is funded for up to $3 million per year for five years and comprises a regional alliance of at least eight universities. The first five I-Corps Hubs were awarded in 2021, with each Hub expanding its reach this year by adding a new partner institution to their region.
I-Corps Hubs provide experiential entrepreneurial training to academic researchers across all fields of science and engineering. I-Corps Hubs form the operational backbone of the National Innovation Network — a network of universities, NSF-funded researchers, local and regional entrepreneurial communities and other federal agencies — that help researchers translate fundamental research results to the marketplace. The I-Corps Hubs work collaboratively to build and sustain a diverse and inclusive innovation ecosystem throughout the U.S.

43North Placing Bigger Bets on Seed-Stage Startups
with FIVE $1M Investments
|
|
As Buffalo, New York gains recognition as one of the fastest-growing startup hubs in the U.S., and on the heels of a transformational year, 43North is on the hunt for its eighth cohort. With the first IPO in 2021 by 43North portfolio company and unicorn, ACV Auctions, and an active cohort in residence at its headquarters, 43North has now opened applications for 2022!
This year, the accelerator program will select five companies and is increasing their check sizes to make $1 million investments. Previous years saw varying investment amounts with only one $1M dollar opportunity. The organization says the decision to make the shift came in response to a changing funding environment. “Venture capital looks a lot different than it did when we launched in 2014,” said Colleen E. Heidinger, president of 43North. “We took time to evaluate our offering and feel that this move, coupled with the value of our programming, ensures that we’ll remain competitive and continue to attract the top startups to our region.”
