Rector Transition Process Update

Interim Rector

The Reverend Tim Mulder will be serving as our Interim Rector beginning Sunday, September 4th. Tim will be celebrating at the 10:00 a.m. service on Sundays through Pentecost. Tim will also be available to us on Wednesdays for education and other events to be announced.

Welcome, Reverend Paul Rajan

Since Tim is unavailable to participate in the 8:00 a.m. service, the Reverend Paul Rajan, Priest-in-Charge at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Wantage since 2019, has graciously agreed to celebrate at the 8:00 a.m. services during the interim period. An Indian New Zealander, Reverend Paul was brought up In the Anglican tradition in South India where he completed his Bachelor of Theology. He subsequently moved to New Zealand to serve as a missionary prior to moving to the United States in 2008, where he completed his Doctoral Studies in Clinical Pastoral Education.

What if I Need Spiritual Guidance?

The Reverend Randy Parks, Newton Medical Center chaplain and Christ Church parishioner, is available to assist with spiritual needs, including counseling, death of a loved one, and other concerns. Randy is available at 862-266-0513 or [email protected].


What if I Have Healthcare Concerns?

Christ Church's very own Faith Community Nurse, Beth Batastini, is available to assist you. You are invited to contact Beth at 973-876-5579 or email [email protected] with health-related concerns or issues. 


When Can I Expect to See the Parish Profile?

The Profile Committee is putting the final touches on the Parish Profile. Once it is completed, the profile will be posted on the church website and submitted to the Diocese of Newark.


Anything Else I Need to Know?

Worship with Us

Christ Church is open for worship at 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on Sundays. The live stream of the 10:00 a.m. service will continue to be posted on our You Tube channel! You can watch it in real time or at your convenience. Find it here.

Opportunity Sunday

We're bringing back Opportunity Sunday on September 11th!


Join us for a scrumptious breakfast, 8:45 - 9:30 a.m., and learn about all of the activities that are available at Christ Church. Parents can register their children and teens for Sunday School and Youth Group. Learn about Junior and Senior Choir, Altar Guild, Helping Hands, Acolytes and Crucifers, Christ Church in Stitches, Bible Study, Christ Church Women's Group, and even some new and exciting activities. Hear from group members and browse the exhibits in Holley Hall.


Beginning at 9:00 a.m., kids are invited to explore all things Harry Potter on the Christ Church playground!

Christian Education

Beginning in September, Christian Education for All Ages will Take Place on

Sundays, 9:00 - 9:45 a.m.

Sunday School

Children ages preschool through sixth grade are invited to participate in the joy of learning about God's immeasurable love by sharing the Gospel stories and actively engaging with the Holy Spirit, Sundays, 9:00 - 9:45 a.m. on the playground, in Holley Hall or in the Sunday School rooms downstairs. We are excited to welcome Cate Terwilliger, Ann Reed, and Dan Kous to our team of extraordinary Sunday School teachers!  Contact Susie Mittelstadt at 973-600-7725 or email [email protected].


Journey Youth Group

The Journey Youth Group invites students in grades 7 - 12 to participate in group discussion, outreach ministries, and fun activities, beginning September 4th


  • The group will assist with meal preparation and distribution for the Brunch in a Bag program on Sunday, September 4th. Help assemble sandwiches and bagged lunches from 9:00 - 9:45 a.m. and distribute the meals from 11:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
  • Bring a bagged lunch and join the crew for a round of miniature golf at the Lake Hopatcong Golf Club, 37 Nolans Point Park Road, on Sunday, September 4th, 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. $14 per person if over the age of 12.
  • Help set up the Welcome Back to Sunday School event on the Christ Church playground, Sunday, September 11th, 9:00 - 9:45 a.m.
  • Help Susie MIttelstadt plan and teach the lesson for the younger children on Sunday, September 18th, 9:00 - 9:45 a.m.
  • On September 25th, class will take place in the Journey classroom in the Undercroft or on the patio, weather permitting.

Parish Activities

Senior Choir Seeks Members

Anyone interested in singing in the Christ Church Senior Choir should not be shy and speak to Joe Mello! Rehearsals are in the church on Thursdays, beginning September 8th at 7:30 p.m. Rehearsals generally last 1 1/2 hours. All interested singers are welcome! If you have any questions, contact Joe at [email protected] or call/text 862-268-4720.


The Junior Choir is Now the "Christ Church Youth Choir"

Students in grades 1 - 12 are invited to join the Christ Church Youth Choir!  On Sunday, September 11th, join us immediately following the 10:00 a.m. service for fun, food and games. It is finally time to get singing again! Acolytes & Crucifers Needed

Students in elementary school, middle school, and high school are invited to serve as acolytes and crucifers during the 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. services.  Training will begin on Sunday, September 25th, 11:15 a.m. - noon under the tutelage of Curt Wilson and Susie Mittelstadt.

The CCW will host a Fall Friday Fun Night, Friday, September 23rd, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Join us as we make customized journals/notebooks and enjoy food and fellowship. Suggested donation of $5 - $10 to cover the cost of materials. RSVP to Diana Greene.

Sunday Servers & Sunday Brunch in a Bag Volunteers

Those who have volunteered to serve as Lay Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Ushers, Acolytes, Crucifers, Altar Guild members, Coffee Hour Hosts, or Brunch in a Bag Sandwich Slingers can check their schedule on the Christ Church website.

Manna House Volunteers

Christ Church provides volunteers to Manna House at the First Presbyterian Church of Newton on the 4th Wednesday of each month. The next volunteer opportunity is on September 28th. Those interested in volunteering are invited to call Laura Booker, 973-383-7635 or email [email protected]. At this time, meals are distributed at the door with limited volunteers due to public health guidelines.


Manna House will host a spaghetti dinner on Tuesday, September 13th, 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. Cost for adults, $5, children 5 - 12, $3. Children under 3 years of age are free. Proceeds benefit Manna House.

Christ Church in Stitches

We welcome anyone who enjoys crocheting or knitting to join us. We have plenty of yarn and supplies for you to start your own project or you can help by working with the group. The next meeting will take place on Thursday, September 8th, 11:30 a.m. in Holley Hall.

Altar Flowers
Parishioners are encouraged to contribute toward the purchase of the flowers on the altar in order to commemorate a special occasion or loved one; Sanctuary Lights or Candles, $20; Altar Flowers, $50. Contact Alex Zander at [email protected] or contact the church office to offer flowers or make a monetary donation.

Pathways 2 Prosperity Meal Preparation

Volunteers are needed to plan and prepare a monthly meal for Pathways 2 Prosperity’s Tuesday dinners. This group meets once a month in the Christ Church kitchen and cooks a meal together, which is then delivered to the Sparta United Methodist Church, 71 S. Sparta Avenue, Sparta, by 5:45 p.m. We are also looking for a volunteer to help coordinate this group. Please contact Diana Greene at [email protected] to volunteer to participate or help lead the group.

College Care Packages


Let's show our college students that we are thinking of them!  The Reverend Randy Parks is coordinating the collection of appropriate food and other items to ship to the members of our congregation who are in college.  If you have a student who would like to receive a Christ Church care package, please provide their contact information to Randy Parks, [email protected].  Items will be accepted on Sundays during September and October; boxes will be shipped in October.
