The September issue of Citrus Industry magazine centers on two topics: citrus under protective screen (CUPS) research and a wrap-up from the Citrus & Specialty Crop Expo.
Three articles cover the latest CUPS findings from the University of Florida. The first article includes a summary of seven seasons of data on Ray Ruby grapefruit grown in CUPS. The research reveals differences in fruit yield, size and Brix depending on rootstock. The second article discusses how deficit irrigation of CUPS-grown trees can improve both internal and external fruit quality. A third article reports on pest incidence and management in CUPS. While CUPS are highly effective in excluding Asian citrus psyllids, other pests and beneficial organisms can enter the structures.
If you missed the annual Citrus & Specialty Crop Expo in August, read highlights from the event in the September issue. Coverage includes an overview of the trade show as well as summaries from the general session and citrus seminars.
