Founded in the 1950’s, Quinta Monteiro de Matos is a family-owned winery, with vineyards located in the Bairro area of the Tejo Region of Portugal.
3rd generation of the family is currently running all aspects of production and business. Viticulture has deep roots in Tejo and is well known as one of the oldest wine producing regions in the country as vineyards have thrived on the banks of the Tejo River since Roman times. The Tejo River has defined the landscape, climate and economy for centuries, and can be credited for shaping the distinct terroirs found across the region, making the surrounding plains and riverbanks an ideal terrain to cultivate native grapes in Portugal. The combination of culture and history with modern and innovating winemaking techniques make the Monteiro de Matos wines exciting and unique.
