Fall 2022 Graduation Application Deadline

Are you completing your program and graduation requirements this December? This is a reminder that you must apply for graduation by Saturday, October 1st if you haven't done so already. As a reminder, students must apply for the term when all requirements will be completed. To apply, submit the Graduation Application online through  CougarNet by the deadline.

Inviting Family to Graduation

A letter of invitation is not required to apply for a nonimmigrant tourist visa per the U.S. Department of State U.S. Consular Affairs. Therefore, the Office of International Affairs and the Registrar no longer provide invitation letters for graduating international students. Visit our website for more information if you would like to invite your family or friends abroad to attend your graduation.

Optional Practical Training (OPT) Application

Are you completing your final courses in the fall 2022 semester? F-1 students who are planning to work off-campus after graduation this Fall will need to apply for OPT authorization which requires USCIS approval.All students who are eligible to apply for OPT will be required to complete the Online OPT Training and submit the required documentation before being issued an OPT I-20. OPT Applications will be accepted beginning Tuesday, September 20, 2022.

Graduate Students and University 500

Enrolling in UNIV 500 allows students to access campus systems including SIUE email address while completing their final project/thesis. Students will lose access to their SIUE email address 180 days after they are no longer enrolled in courses. Students incur a Health Service charge as well as the administrative fee for each semester they are only enrolled in UNIV 500. What is Curricular Practical Training (CPT)?

Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is defined as employment that is an integral part of an established curriculum in the student's course of study. CPT work authorization can include internships, cooperative education or any other employment that is related to the student's degree program. Thus, CPT for F-1 students is intended to provide work experience in situations where the work serves as an integral part of a student's academic program, prior to completion of that program.
