As a follow up to our July and August newsletters, I want to provide a specific update regarding the global supply chain and its recent standings. To catch up on prior conversations, check out the Arkansas DEC newsletters here.

While port congestion was starting to clear up in May and June when shipping queues had fallen back to double digits, it appears things have taken a turn for the worse once again. V. Alexander & Co., Inc. recently released an update showing that congestion issues at U.S. terminals have returned in all three of our major port operations in the East, Gulf, and West Coast. Waiting times range from one to 17 day for vessels. They state the long waiting times are due to high import volume, berth congestion, labor shortages, and vessel bunching, with some U.S. ports at 90% capacity. Luckily, we’re doing a bit better than our neighbors to the north who are reporting upwards of 126% capacity at the Prince Rupert port in British Columbia, Canada. Some ports have extended trucking hours amid the mounting vessel buildup, but will that be enough? Stay tuned to this newsletter and sign up for our free webinar to learn more!

FEATURED MEMBER

Dennis Truelove,

International Product Manager,

LOCKHEED MARTIN MISSILE & FIRE CONTROL, Camden, Arkansas

Appointed as a Member of the Arkansas District Export Council in 2018, Dennis has always actively promoted exports, especially in his position as International Product Manager at Lockheed Martin. He started 41 years ago in the facility’s security office and worked his way up the corporate ladder. Currently, he oversees production operations in Camden and Red River Army Depot for the Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) M270A2 Fleet Expansion projects and has traveled around the world supporting the US Army, as well as foreign military customers in more than 10 countries. His Production Management Team has been recognized at the Lockheed Martin Evening of Excellence. Lockheed Martin has provided significant funding to ARDEC as a Platinum Sponsor of the Governor's Award since 2019.

Dennis has won several accolades over the course of his long career. He is most proud of his induction into the Order of Saint Barbara, a US military honor society for both the US Army and the US Marine Corps Artillery. This honor is awarded to those individuals who have demonstrated the highest standards of integrity and moral character, displayed an outstanding degree of professional competence, served the Artillery with selflessness; and contributed to the promotion of the Artillery branch. Dennis also holds a Green Belt in Lean Six Sigma, a discipline that is used to help organizations deliver Customer Value through efficient operations and quality standards. Further awards include the Arkansas National Guard Minute Man Award recognizing outstanding service to the National Guard Bureau, and in 2010 Contractor of the Year from Letterkenny Army Depot. In his spare time, Dennis serves as Justice of the Peace for Ouachita County, and enjoys spending time with his wife Brenda, his daughter Lauren (2020 Mrs. Arkansas) and his two granddaughters Laynee (11) & Layken (6), who are both competition cheerleaders. He plans to retire in the near future and we will dearly miss his wise counsel and generous donation of time and effort to the Arkansas District Export Council.
