What is your #1 goal for the programs committee during your tenure as programs director?
My overall goal was realized at the beginning of this year with the publication of a book of collective knowledge by ICF Austin coaches., “Explorations into the Being and Doing of Coaching.” I initiated this project when I was first elected to the board. The idea came to me as a way to celebrate our 25 years as a chapter. A true collaboration, this project epitomizes the foundational qualities of ICF Austin’s culture, a culture of support, connection, and collaboration. It embodies our shared value of giving back to our community and profession. After the success of the book publication, the programs committee is focused on building our team and nurturing someone to become the new leader next year.
What makes the programs committee special?
We get to provide members with creative learning opportunities that celebrate ICF Core Competencies, Code of Ethics, and the myriad manifestations of our profession.
Share a day-in-the-life of a programs director.
As programs director, I enjoy taking time to interview potential speakers, getting to know what their passions are, and providing them a platform with which to share their knowledge. Along with meeting people from around the globe, I work to find ways for our members to connect, learn and network. One new program this year, based on our chapter’s book, is Book Club. Members have the opportunity to take a deep dive into a single chapter of the book, share insights and experiences and earn cce’s in the process.
What are some up & coming programs that our ICF Austin members need to be aware of?
Happy Hour Book Club is the 3rd Friday of each month from 5:30-6:30 pm. Upcoming monthly chapter meetings include Coaching the Human Soul with Sonya Ware in September and Liminal Space as a Relational Field of Opportunity with Lisa Withrow in October.
Why coaching?
As coaches, we hold a sacred space of possibility for our clients. It's a judgment free space of deep listening and inquiry where clients can explore different perspectives and discover the answers they have inside of themselves. What an honor it is to hold that space!
What are your favorite things about Austin?
I am one of those unicorns who was actually born in Austin. Having witnessed the transformation of the city over time, I’ve seen the city grow and adapt to changes in creative ways. I love the spirit of downtown, the music scene and all of the fine restaurant offerings we have now.
What is your favorite place to visit in and around Austin?
I love being in nature. One of my favorite places is McKinney Roughs Nature Park. I’ve ridden my horse there for years. It’s great for hiking, too. In recent years, it has evolved to include ziplining over the canopy of trees, boat rides along the Colorado River, which runs through it and other fun activities for nature lovers.
Share something about you that might surprise others.
I’ve studied French, Italian, Farsi, and Latin. I haven’t had the opportunity to practice my Latin much over the years, though, because the Pope won’t return my phone calls.
Thank you Michelle! Each month, we’ll spotlight a committee so you can learn more about what’s going on with the chapter, our board members, and our current volunteers. And, we’d love for you to join a committee to further your connection with your fellow coaches in meaningful ways.
If you want to join the programs committee or have questions about programs, Michelle would love to hear from you at programs@icfaustin.org.
