Fall is here! That means Pro Bono Week is just around the corner. Coordinated by the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service, Pro Bono Week is intended to inspire even greater pro bono participation by lawyers throughout the nation. In 2022, Pro Bono Week will be celebrated from October 23-29 and PILI is organizing a variety of in person and virtual events across Illinois around and during that week.   • PILI to Fund Largest Number of Law Student Interns Ever and Begins Two-Step Stipend Increase. PILI will grant over $347,000 to fund 65 Law Student Interns at 30 public interest law agencies across Illinois in the coming year. It will also increase the stipend for Interns to $3,100 for a semester and $6,200 in the summer to be consistent across the state with recent minimum wage increases. Read more »

  • Calling all law students interested in public interest law! Explore the Possibilities: Public Interest Law Program for Law Students will be held virtually on October 1, 2022 and those interested in attending can register now.

  • Intern & Fellow Application System Opens Soon! Interested law students can apply for Spring Semester 2023 PILI Internships and Summer 2023 Graduate Fellowship positions as of 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 15th. Read more »


  • PILI mourns the passing of Life Director Don Hilliker. Don joined PILI’s Board of Directors in 2006 on behalf of his then firm, McDermott Will & Emery LLP, and in 2015 was named as a Life Director in honor of his many years of service to PILI his careerlong commitment to public interest law and access to justice.
