United Arab Emirates: In 2021, a new central section for speech therapy was created in the Health Support Services department of the Emirates Health Services, established to enhance the federal health sector’s efficiency, provide healthcare and treatment, and take preventative measures in combating epidemics and diseases, as well as oversee the sustainable development of healthcare. Dr Moataz Alzeyat proposed implementing IDDSI in the United Arab Emirates, and an official task force, proposed by Ms. Latefa Rashed, the director of the Health Support Services Department, designed the initial plan. After presenting to the CEO, the Board of Executives, and the General Director of the EHSE, 2 sites were chosen (a general and a pediatrics/women) to begin implementing IDDSI. Since the second quarter of 2022, awareness and education have been built across different disciplines, materials have begun to be translated into Arabic, staff questionnaires have been prepared in both Arabic and English, practical training across disciplines, ongoing orientations, and more. Congratulations!
