Plant a tree, or two, or more!

Trees provide so many benefits to our everyday lives. Boards & Committee Updates
The BOS held their regular meeting on Tuesday, August 23rd, 2022. At this meeting the BOS Chair, Danielle Duckett, presented commendations from Representative Liz Hanbidge and Senator Maria Collett to Mitch Kulp, Parks Superintendent, and Sandi Feight-Hicks, Recreation Director, for their achievements in Parks and Recreation. Mitch Kulp was the 2022 recipient of the Good Job! Award presented to one individual in the state from the PA Recreation and Parks Society (PRPS) for their exceptional work in recreation. Sandi Feight-Hicks was also recognized for her work in creating a digital trail map. Police Officer, Gerry Hunt, was promoted to Sergeant during the meeting as well. Gerry Hunt has been a member of the police department for 15 years and was one of the top performers in the testing conducted for the position that resulted in the promotion. Congratulations Mitch, Sandi, and Gerry!

The St. Charles Seminary land development at Gwynedd Mercy University was presented to the BOS. The proposed plan is to add a college residence hall with a chapel, a new student life center, and a new maintenance building. A future gym and an additional building are also shown on the plans. Improvements to the parking facilities, a new access drive, landscaping, and lighting are also proposed as part of the plan. In addition, the existing basin will be retrofitted to manage stormwater. The applicant's representative explained that they had worked with the Planning Commission (PC) to figure out an appropriate buffer between the properties on Meetinghouse Road and the campus. A heavily planted berm will be installed as recommended by the PC. The BOS reviewed the requested waivers and discussed the tree replacements. In other business, the BOS approved Ordinance #533 restricting parking on Roberts Road, and approved a contract with the Montgomery County Planning Commission to provide assistance with preparing the next comprehensive plan. The BOS also authorized the Traffic Engineer to re-bid the Dager Road pedestrian crosswalk project, ratified the submission of an RACP grant application for a new public works building, and authorized the advertisement of an amended stormwater management ordinance as required by the PA Department of Environmental Protection. The BOS will return to their normal schedule in September where they will meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at 7pm. This schedule will remain in effect for the rest of the year, except in December, when there is only one meeting on the 2nd Tuesday.
The EAC held their regular meeting on August 10, 2022. The EAC is working on finalizing the details for the first tree giveaway scheduled for October 1st. Registration will open on September 1st. The Township will bid farewell to Rich Miles, Facilities Maintenance Laborer, when he retires on September 2nd, 2022. Rich joined the Public Works Department in 1997 and has loyally served the Township for the past 25 years. Rich was the resident handyman who could fix anything. He understood how everything worked and whenever there was an issue everyone knew to call Rich. He will be sorely missed by the Township Staff and Supervisors, but we wish him all the best in his retirement and many sunny days ahead in Florida!
