Recent Activities

Back-to-School Season

Peer Plus was proud to help coordinate and assist with COVID testing at several Back-to-School and outdoor community events over the summer. Majority of the events were hosted by church partners.

(Left) Peer Plus also helped a church with outdoor clean-up preparations for a community event. (Right) Peer Plus junior volunteer Trinity Rodgers was well prepared for her first year of college, thanks to the 16th annual "Better Love Yourself" Trunk party at Malcolm X College. The event was founded by Chicago vocalist Terisa Griffin to promote higher education.

In September, Peer Plus also participated in the annual "Taste of Gospel," at 51st and King Drive (below, left) and in the 3rd memorial Kennedy Walk at the Kroc Center in Chicago. This walk was hosted by Marsha Evans (left in photo) in honor of her granddaughter Kennedy Parker, who bravely battled a rare form of cancer until 2020, at age 24. Her mother Darnesha Parker now runs "Project Kennedy," a nonprofit founded by Kennedy, to raise awareness about cancer.

Public Health Matters

Peer Plus supporter and NCBON President Tonya Roberson (left) welcomed Dr. Terry Mason, a retired Urologist and Public Health Official, as the keynote speaker at the inaugural meeting of the National Community-Based Organization Network (Aug. 20) in Chicago. NCBON brings organizations together to enhance public health and influence policy.

A Helping Hand

Thanks to a very generous neighbor, Peer Plus was able to donate a 55-inch flat screen TV to the Gary Comer Youth Center in Chicago.

Words of Encouragement

"From the bottom of our hearts, my family thanks you for providing temporary housing in the aftermath of experiencing a house fire. Although we lost nearly everything, your support and honor took the horror out of what could easily overload the mental capacity. Your gifts allowed us to rest our bodies and minds in comfort. We were able to pray and strategize our next moves as a family. Your timing was impeccable. Your help was sorely needed, and we are so grateful for your charity shown to us. Peer Plus is a modern day version of The Good Samaritan in the Bible. Peer Plus is a ministry that expands the walls of a church and helps where the needs really are. We know Peer Plus is doing God's work in the community, working at the grass-root levels, where most organizations have forgotten. May God in heaven reward Peer Plus with every good and perfect blessing. You sure have been a great blessing to us. We will never forget that Peer Plus helped us and gave us compassion, respect and honor in our time of bewilderment and great need. God bless you in all your endeavors."

"I look good because of you, Peer Plus!"  Meet Ja'Kells, who recently wrote to tell Peer Plus that he is now a sophomore Honor Roll student at Intrinsic High School #79 (Downtown Campus on Monroe).

In 2021 Peer Plus helped his mother Ja'Mi Newbon prepare for his 8th Grade picture day and graduation.

Congratulations to brand marketing expert George Nambo for being a recipient of the prestigious 2022 Stellar Gospel Music Awards in August.  George provides marketing consulting and video production for Peer Plus.
