Local Ruck March Benefits Veterans | |

Over the last three years, Doyougivearuck has donated more than $230,000.00 to Veteran causes. Although, they have never raised money for educational purposes. This year, they are making a change and investing in Veterans' continued education.
On September 9th, #DoYouGiveARuck? will partner with Indian River State College to host the Freedom Festival and Memorial Ruck event to raise funding for a Veteran College Fund for Indian River State College Veteran Program.
They will also raise money for the #DYGAR Emergency Relief Fund which provides housing and vehicle assistance for Veterans and their families.
Also, they are accepting non-perishable foods, hygiene supplies, new clothes, school supplies, and baby items during this 1-mile ruck march to fight poverty in the Saint Lucie County community. All donations will be donated to Mustard Seed Ministries, who will distribute the supplies to underprivileged families.
This free event will be hosted at the Indian River State College Pruitt Campus to honor the one's we lost during 9/11 and those who answered our nation's call during the Global War on Terror. The event will feature live music and food trucks. The Port St. Lucie Police Depart K9 Unit will feature a K-9 Demonstration. To register for the event, click the button below.

I want to encourage all Veterans, caregivers, and other support groups to reach out and check on the wellness and welfare of our fellow Veterans within our community. A simple phone call or a text could make a huge difference in someone’s life.
A friendly voice on the phone or a knock at the door to see if they are OK may be all needed to stave off a situation that could get worse. Checking in and learning that something is not right will enable the appropriate support agencies to be contacted.
Buddy checks are incredibly important as many Veterans are isolated from society due to public health concerns or other conditions. They may be struggling with disabilities, job loss, bereavement, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, or simply loneliness.
As past military leaders, we took an oath to not only lead but to look out for the health and welfare of those assigned to us. I have never forgotten that oath and my obligation to my soldiers. We were not relieved of those duties when we retired or left the service.

On September 11, 2001, 2,977 people were killed in the deadliest terrorist attacks in American history. This day will forever be remembered as the day that changed our lives forever. Most people can tell you exactly what they were doing when they heard the news of this horrific event. As a member of the Armed Forces, I immediately knew that we were destined for war.
The events of this day shocked our nation. Two planes, hijacked by Islamic jihadists vowing death to all Americans, plowed into both towers at the World Trade Center in New York. A third plane was flown into the Pentagon in Washington, DC. A fourth plane, presumably headed for the White House or the U.S. Capitol, was heroically diverted by passengers and ended up crashing in an empty field in Pennsylvania. After reports of the first plane hitting the North Tower, millions of Americans, including myself watched in disbelief as the second plane hit the South Tower on live television. It was at that moment that we knew this was a deliberate act.
It was a terrifying, startling, and humbling event for the country. The 9/11 attacks were the deadliest on American soil since the attack on Pearl Harbor 60 years before, and the sense of outrage was reminiscent of that moment.
The attacks in New York occurred in the country’s busiest city on a busy workday. And the staggered nature of the attacks meant that news footage captured almost everything as it happened, ensuring that millions of Americans saw the events precisely as they unfolded.

9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

The City of Port St. Lucie and the MIDFLORIDA Event Center invite the public to attend its annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony. The ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, September 11, 2023, adjacent to the 9/11 monument on the Front Plaza of the Event Center.
The St. Lucie County Fire District, Port St. Lucie Police Department, St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office and St. Lucie Fire District Honor Guard Pipes and Drums Band will assist with the ceremonies.
- 8:30 a.m. - Opening Ceremonies
- 8:46 a.m. - Bell tolls for AA Flight 11 that crashed into North Towers of the World Trade Center
- 9:03 a.m. - Bell tolls for UA Flight 175 that crashed into South Tower of the World Trade Center
- 9:37 a.m. - Bell tolls for AA Flight 77 that crashed into the Pentagon.
- 10:03 a.m. - Bell tolls for UA Flight 93 that went down in Shanksville, PA
- Bell toll times per the 9/11 Memorial Museum, New York, NY.
We ask the members of our community to join us as we reflect, honor, and remember our fallen neighbors, friends, and loved ones lost on that fateful September day.

National POW/MIA Recognition Day | |

National POW/MIA Recognition Day was established in 1979 through a proclamation signed by President Jimmy Carter. Since then, each subsequent president has issued an annual proclamation commemorating the third Friday in September as National POW/MIA Recognition Day.
A national-level ceremony is held on every National POW/MIA Recognition Day. Traditionally held at the Pentagon, it features members from each branch of military service and participation from high-ranking officials.
In addition to the national-level ceremony, observances of National POW/MIA Recognition Day are held across the country on military installations, ships at sea, state capitals, schools, and veterans' facilities.
This year through the generosity of Rolling Thunder Chapter 6 we will dedicate a POW/MIA Chair in Veterans Memorial Park in Port St. Lucie. The service will be held on September 15, 2023, at 6 p.m.
