Did you know that students are 6x more likely to complete mental health treatment in schools than in a community setting? School-based services provide help where kids need it, when they need it. Providing services at school reduces obstacles like transportation, finding a convenient appointment time, stigma, and cost.
Georgia Appleseed partners closely with school systems, mental health providers, and other nonprofits to bring services to kids at school. As the Georgia Collaborative for School-Based Behavioral Health, we partner with The Carter Center, Voices for Georgia’s Children, and Resilient Georgia to pool resources and share expertise. Together, we help schools build strong school-based behavioral health (SBBH) programs that improve academic success, social skills, and school connections. They boost teacher morale and also raise graduation rates. Our SBBH Collaborative provides technical support and guidance for schools interested in establishing SBBH programs, and publishes important information about Georgia’s SBBH initiatives, like a map of existing programs throughout Georgia and fact sheets about the need for and impact of high-quality programs.
