How do we stay resilient? We do it together.

Our AGM is not only a time to review the year and discuss matters like our finances and long-term plans, but it is also an opportunity to celebrate our benchmarks, answer questions from our community, and bolster ourselves for the future.

This year, we recognized one of our star volunteers by awarding a Lifetime Membership (congrats Tessie!), we welcomed new Board members, and we extended gratitude to our friends who support the Centre, such as through grant support. Find out more in our AGM Recap, now live on the website.

Reminder: our friends at the Lions Club are running their Farmers Market until October 11! Enjoy fresh produce at great prices while supporting their charitable causes.

What are the dangers of falling for older adults?

Film star Sofia Loren made news this week after suffering from a fall in her home. While she is currently stable and recovering, falls remain a significant source of injury and even untimely death for older adults. According to Public Health, as many as 30% of seniors in Canada fall at least once each year. The impact of falls can vary, and are accompanied by a high risk of complications - but fortunately, there are ways to prevent falls and mitigate the long-term effects.

Students and Seniors are Teaming Up Against Unaffordable Housing

In the face of Canada's lack of affordable housing and heightened challenges for newcomers, one Toronto-area couple is making a difference. Hubert Campfrens and his wife, Monica, use spare rooms in their house as affordable rentals for young students and immigrants, welcoming them to share their entire home. Not only does the arrangement provide people in need with a much-needed place to live, but it allows the couple to learn new things and stay connected to their community.
