President's Message

On behalf of the board of directors, I’d like to welcome old and new members to our fall semester. We are excited to continue our wonderful programs and activities. As you know, we have a variety of interesting classes which will certainly expand your mind and enrich your experiences. I am ready to explore poetry, talk about aging, cook with Carol, and learn about the butterflies of Cape Cod!

If you haven’t registered yet, you still can – go to our website capecodall.org to check out the open classes and fill out a registration form and send with payment. ALL members, be sure to check your emails for updates and information about taking an extra class at no cost. An email will be sent to all members regarding adding an extra class.

Our Special Events committee is busy planning some very interesting special events. You’ll be hearing about them soon, so check your email.

Are you an artist, photographer, quilter? We would love to display some of your creative work in our lobby/gallery. Right now, Larry Brown will be displaying some of his favorite photos from last year. Contact lifelonglearning@capcod.edu if you are interested.

We are looking for desk volunteers for the first few weeks on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Email lifelonglearning@capecod.edu if you’d like to help answer phone or the questions of our members.

Remember that checking your email is important as an ALL member. Our monthly newsletter and email reminders will keep you updated about what’s happening. Check our website for a variety of information and listen to some of our podcasts. The interviews of our coordinators and members truly are enlightening.

Also, plan on submitting something creative to our Reflections Magazine. June Calender has stepped aside after being editor and contributor for many years. She and her committee published a very special, creative magazine which gave our talented members a voice and an audience. Thanks again, June. Maggie French and her team will continue publishing Reflections, so plan on submitting something soon. Information is listed later in this newsletter and more reminders will be emailed.

Lastly, there has been a small uptick in Covid cases; having finally contracted it two weeks ago, I know it is still around. It’s more like a bad cold, but it’s tiring. Do what makes you feel comfortable – wear a mask if you want to, it’s your choice. We respect that.

See you very soon – looking forward to another year of learning, sharing, and connecting!

Dianne Tattersall

ALL President

Reflections 2024 Wants YOU !

For those who might not be aware … In 2000, the year the world moved into the twenty-first century, the Academy For Lifelong Learning published a compilation of writings and art of the membership in its first edition titled Senior Reflections, later shortened to Reflections

"This annual anthology showcases individual pieces of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, photography and art reflecting memories, insights, humor, and philosophy gathered from the lifelong experiences of its generous contributors."

Lifelong experience. The members of the Academy for Lifelong Learning are an accomplished group of individuals who have distinguished themselves in the world of business, academia, arts and science, the military, and so many other fields during a lifetime.

All of us have something to share that peers and the community would benefit in reading and viewing. I w

Do you have a story, poem, you think is worth publishing? A photograph or piece of art you would like to display for others to enjoy.

Whether you have a creative aptitude, i.e. writing, watercolor, etc. or you have a predilection for the political, philosophical, community, etc., your voice is important. We each have something to say, and here in Reflections is your place to do just that

Take a chance on yourself. You have something to share, and we are here to see that happen. Click on the following button for information on how to submit your work to Reflections 2024.
