yet also a simple process.

Dear Michael,

I’m very excited to read Thomas Hübl’s new book that is being released Sept 12th: Attuned: Practicing Interdependence to Heal Our Trauma - and Our World. I haven’t received my copy yet, but I have been studying with Thomas for nearly a decade now and want to share some of my thoughts about the Art of Attunement. I do consider it an art and a practice and hope you will join me in purchasing a copy when it is released and applying some of the principles he talks about to your own life.

Seventeen years ago when I started my radio show, Conversations, which later became WE Earth Radio, the stated purpose was to “Heal the Wounds that Separate, Alienate, and Marginalize Us”. I have never really wavered from that purpose, though to some of you, it may seem that way.

My journey has taken me from the world of Organizational Development to Transformational Teaching and Breathwork, 5Rhythms Dance, Shamanism, Soul Retrieval, and Spiritual Teaching. My current passion for the past decade has been helping people become trauma-informed, integrated, and moving into post-traumatic healing on a collective level. I have come to see trauma as a spiritual path! All of this was born from a deep desire to personally feel more connected and to live in an intra-connected world that includes everyone and everything, which of course is already the truth of the matter, albeit mostly unconscious!

We are swimming in a sea of trauma that has become normalized. We have personal, familial, cultural, ancestral, geographic, and historical trauma that is shaping our actions, creating separation, and generating the destruction of our habitat. Trauma means the same thing as Karma, incomplete and unintegrated experiences from the past. So the first step is to become mindful of the fact that we are already connected with everyone and everything. For the most part, we are so focused on what we think happened in the past or our fear of what might happen in the future, that we are rarely fully present. All the unfinished business from not only our past, but that of our ancestors, is like carry-on luggage that we carry around and place in between us and the moment-to-moment unfolding of life. Attunement begins with presencing, an act of bringing our bodies, emotions, and minds into alignment with what’s happening in the moment.

When we attune with others we allow our own internal state to shift,

to come to resonate with the inner world of another. This resonance

is at the heart of the important sense of “feeling felt”

that emerges in close relationships.
