The Talk it Out NC website has long been a go-to source for information on how to prevent underage drinking. Now we’ve made it even better!

  1. Current Research: In addition to offering quick access to the most up-to-date brain research and underage drinking facts, the website now features improved infographics that provide an interactive experience for the audience.
  2. Age-specific Resources: Because our resources are tailored to different age groups, parents, teens, and young adults can all find the information they need about underage drinking prevention.
  3. Situational Resources: The website has helpful information specific to different situations. Among other valuable tools, we offer tips for starting the conversation about alcohol, suggestions for avoiding underage drinking, and advice on how to help a young person who’s already using alcohol.
  4. Access to the Blog Archive: We’re regularly sharing new articles containing the latest research, ideas for fun sober activities, actionable guides for talking with teens about the risks of underage drinking, and much more.

We’re passionate about preventing underage drinking, and we hope you are too.

A Message from your Valdese Recreation Department

Valdese Parks and Recreation Staff is excited to welcome September and the many fun things that go along with it. September means the start of games for our Tiger youth football and cheerleading programs, as well as our outdoor soccer program. It means cooler weather for park visits and hikes at Valdese Lakeside Park. It means the Valdese Plein Air Fest. It means the Bubble going up and indoor swimming and aquatics activities. Speaking of the Bubble, the pool will be closed Friday, September 9 at noon until 7am Monday, September 18 for the Bubble install, and the Splash Pad will be turned off for year at the end of September. We'll be wrapping up the month with a huge celebration at Valdese Lakeside Park: a ribbon cutting at 1pm on September 28 for the canoe/kayak launch and fishing pier! Come check out this great addition to the park built by the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission.

There are going to be some changes taking place at the pool and fitness center after Labor Day. We will be implementing our new fee schedule approved by council this past July. For several years, patrons with a mailing address of Valdese who didn't live in town limits have been able to pay "In-Town" membership rates. Beginning September 5, patrons must be inside town limits to receive this rate. Rates have been simplified from their previous structure to be individual or household memberships (up to 6 people per household membership), and we still offer discounts for teachers, first responders and law enforcement, and veterans and active duty service members. Day passes for fitness center and pool use will be $5 for visitors of all ages. For questions about these changes, please contact the pool and fitness counter at (828) 874-6737.
