Community Resource Services

September 2023

On September 19, 2023, Community Resource Services (CRS) will be celebrating 35 years of serving residents in Avon and Avon Lake who are struggling financially or are experiencing food insecurity. On this occasion, we celebrate not only the achievements and progress CRS has made over the years, but the dedication and commitment of so many that have played a crucial role in shaping our journey from humble beginnings to the impactful organization CRS has become today. We extend heartfelt thanks to those whose collective efforts helped lay the foundation for our success and to those who continue to support us into the future.

BIG TRUCKS & STUFF-A-TRUCK FOOD DRIVE

THIS SATURDAY!

The annual Big Trucks event, sponsored by the City of Avon Lake, is scheduled for Saturday, September 16, 2023. This is always a very popular and fun event. New this year is the "Stuff a Truck for CRS" food drive. Bring an item to donate to the CRS food pantry, and place it in the specially marked Police, Fire or Public Works vehicle of your choice!

The family-owned Meijer company is continuing their commitment to hunger relief efforts through the Holiday Simply Give Campaign! CRS is so grateful to partner with the Avon Meijer store for this campaign that kicks off on Sunday, October 1, 2023, and runs through Saturday, December 30, 2023. During the campaign, Meijer will invite their customers to purchase $10 Simply Give donation cards that can be found at each register. Through these donations, CRS will receive Meijer gift cards that we will use to purchase items to help keep our pantry well stocked. Thank you in advance for your support of this incredible initiative to help fight hunger in our own community!

Football Cozy Fundraiser!

It’s the time of year for football games and tailgating! When the weather turns chilly you won’t want to hold a cold beverage with your bare hand! Keep your hand warm and get yourself some of these adorable football beverage covers! One of our fantastic volunteers makes them using 100% cotton yarn and for every cover she sells she will donate a portion to CRS! Contact Carrie to purchase yours now!

We recently conducted a Needs Assessment Survey to gather valuable insights from our clients to better understand their needs. We are thrilled that we received 181 responses and we will be using the feedback to improve and expand our current programs.

The final question in the survey was "Do you have any additional comments about your experience at CRS, the services offered and/or the service received?" Here is an actual response from one of our clients:

“I love the fact you are not embarrassed or ashamed going here. It is very hard for most people to ask for help and for myself I really will not ask anybody for anything until I desperately need it so when I leave, I always have a sense of relief.”

A big THANK YOU to Brian Yarham and the crew from Eyring Movers for helping us out in the pantry recently. We had some very big and heavy cabinets that we needed to be moved and they didn’t hesitate to come to our rescue!

CRS has been blessed this month with many donations of non-perishable items for our food pantry !Thank you to the following businesses and organizations:

Avenbury Ladies of the Lake, Avon Lake Presbyterian Church, Avon Lake Giant Eagle, Avon Lake Swim Team, Avon-on-the-Lake Garden Club, Barry Bagels, Christ Church Westshore, Freeman Manufacturing, Holy Spirit Church, Holy Trinity Parish, Hunger Network Food Rescue, Avon Lake Kiwanis Club, and the Learwood Middle School 7th and 8th Grade Volleyball Teams.

We are so grateful for all of the donations that help keep our food pantry well stocked. Thank you for making a difference, right here at home!
