Greetings SAME NoVA Post Members!
As September progresses and the heat of Summer is replaced by cooler temperatures, your NoVA Post continues to offer great events for professional development and networking. The upcoming strategy session on September 19th will continue the planning to support the needs of corporate and individual members into the future.
Your Resilience committee continued its annual support of September as National Preparedness Month by hosting a free webinar discussing federal government guidance on electrification with SAME’s strategic partner, Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). The 1st Annual Clay Shooting event sold out as everyone took advantage of a stellar outing for networking and camaraderie.
The SAME NoVA Post 8th Annual Business to Business (B2B) event is gearing up with government speakers presenting opportunities and all business sizes offering insights into how they would like to grow and with who they want to team with.
If you have any ideas, suggestions, comments, improvements, or criticisms, please contact me or any of the Post Board members to discuss.
Thanks for your incredible support of the NoVA Post!

Thank you so much Lucian for an engaging session and thanks to Bree Beal and HKS for hosting our class again at your DC office!!

Federal Government Electrification Initiatives and Opportunities
In keeping with our Resilience Committee support of September as National Preparedness Month, a free virtual webinar was held on September 7th linking the Federal Sustainability Plan (derived from Executive Order 14057) mandates to electrification for fossil fuel greenhouse gas emission reduction.
Allan Dennis of Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), a SAME strategic partner, provided an outstanding presentation on EPRI’s electrification research solutions for residential, commercial, industrial, and non-road transportation in support of military installations. Over 50 attended the webinar clearly relating electrification as the primary pathway to achievement of the Net-Zero Emissions (NZE) buildings and Federal Building Performance Standard goals. The presentations and a recording of the session are available here.
Several questions at the end of the session point to an interest in the ability of the electrical grid to support the broad electrification efforts and required protection from both physical threats and electromagnetic pulse (EMP). Looking forward, EPRI has the expertise and research in both areas to provide a future presentation to cover these areas of concern.

NoVA Post 1st Annual Sporting Clays Event Recap
|
|
We held our first-ever Sporting Clays Event on Wednesday, September 13th.
The weather gods smiled down on us as we avoided the torrential downpours of the previous evening and days and had great weather throughout.
With 48 registered shooters, it was a fantastic turnout and provided great
networking opportunities for everyone. There were beginner shooters, seasoned regulars, and everything in between, but no matter the skill level everyone had a great time. The Bull Run Shooting Center staff was very helpful and provided tips and training to our new shooters.
We awarded trophies to the first and second place teams, First and Second High score, the high Ladies score and the high beginners score. We were able to raise over $6,000 for our Post Scholarship fund, which wouldn’t have been possible without our sponsors; ECS, Dewberry, Froehling & Robertson, JS Global, Michael Baker International, and Timmons Group; and our raffle basket donations, from Michael Baker International, Sorba Engineering, ECS, and IMEG.
