CHAIR MESSAGE
Lee Ernst
The Lee Ernst Group at eXp Realty
Hi Lisle,
September kicks off with Labor Day and the weekend so aptly named. If you’re staying home that weekend and taking it easy, please consider shopping and dining locally. I really like our restaurants; I’ve been a part of Lisle since 2007 and noticed the quality and quantity has improved over the years.
Our shops are equally great. Whether you’re looking for home décor, clothing, jewelry, bicycles, honey or knick-knacks we have you covered!
September weather is a great time to visit the Morton Arboretum to walk the paths, take part in their events and check out the new exhibitions, if you prefer, be sure to get those miles in by walking and bike riding in your neighborhood before winter hits.
Speaking of miles, you can sign for the Turkey Trot Tune-Up 5K starting in September which happens every November in Lisle. This is one of our signature events that is not to be missed. See you there!
Remember, September isn't just about the changing seasons; it's about embracing change and celebrating the threads that bind our community together. So, don your fall attire, gather with friends and family, and revel in the beauty of September in Lisle.
Wishing you a September filled with warmth and wonder,
Lee Ernst

Lisle Community Survey
The Village is pleased to announce they will be conducting a comprehensive community survey beginning in late August. The survey will initially be made available to a representative sample of randomly selected households, who will receive a mailed postcard invitation to participate. Soon after, all residents will be able to complete the survey online by visiting the Village of Lisle’s website on September 21, 2023.
Over the past few months, the Village has worked with Polco, an independent consultant and civic engagement company, to develop the survey. The instrument, known as The National Community Survey™, allows the Village to gather and compare results as well as benchmark residents’ opinions against other communities across the country. The survey will include questions about quality of life, important characteristics of the community, municipal services and priorities for the future.
If you are selected, we highly encourage you to take the survey at your earliest opportunity. This survey will help the Village Board and staff identify priorities for the community and plan for the future.
Residents with questions about the survey may contact the Village’s Community Engagement Specialist, Joseph Viso, at 630-271-4134 or at jviso@villageoflisle.org. For more additional information regarding the survey please click here.

Executive Director Message
Jill Eidukas
As I traveled this summer to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with friends, I realized that I spend a lot of time on my phone. Using the phone for internet, email, and texting is in our everyday lives. We use it to do everything in our personal lives and in business. The further up we traveled in the Peninsula, I had less and less phone service and soon only SOS appeared where the bars of service are typically located. I have never seen that before. To get to our destinations, I actually had to read the Michigan map without Siri telling me where to turn. My point is that everyone should disconnect once in a while and live in the moment. It rejuvenated me and yet also drove me crazy at the same time.
When I travel, I like to stop and visit the shops and restaurants and speak with the local business owners. No matter where I visit on vacations, the successes and struggles are the same that we have in our community. Restaurant owners, boat tour operators and shop owners cannot seem to hire enough staff especially during busy tourist seasons. But this year they all seemed to agreed that it has been the best year they have had since before the pandemic. Last year it was hard to replenish stock due to the myriad of shipping issues. They noticed that their reorders are coming in much quicker now and the visitors to the area are purchasing more souvenirs and gifts. I was told that jams and honey were there number one gift item.
It was suggested by many that I shouldn’t miss trying a pasty which is meat, potatoes and carrots baked in a pastry shell. So, I went to the first sign that said “Pasty made here”. I stood in line with 15 other people (so I knew that this place must be good) and tried one. I have to agree if you up North, you have to try one. I spoke briefly with the staff at the restaurant and they said business had been really slow the past few years but this summer, visitors are back and lines are long.
How does a business create new experiences and new ways to come to your town? The Andy Warhol Exhibit at the MAC this summer has created a buzz for DuPage County. The 1970’s Warhol them and pop art in bright colors in the towns in DuPage County was so cool. Each town paid homage to their 4 Hometown Heros in conjunction with the Warhol exhibit. This added a sense of community and celebrated their contributions these Hometown Heros made to their communities. Lisle’s colorful Yarn Art project sponsored by our Chamber, was well received and a fun experience. If you have any interest in joining the Downtown Business Council this fall, please contact us. This is a great was to get your ideas for the next community project that you would like to see.
The Turkey Trot Tune-Up 5K registration link is on the Chamber website under the What’s New section. The date for this event is November 12, 2023 and the race takes place through Lisle Community Park. This year Chamber will be donating a portion of the proceeds to the West Suburban Community Pantry.
Fall is almost upon us, get out and enjoy the autumnal colors this season.
