Hot now, but fall is coming soon. Get out and enjoy some ABATE events this late summer and early fall. A couple of things are coming that you should be aware of.
We have received updated bylaws from the attorney to change to a 501c3. The bylaw committee has begun to review them and hopes to get them to you by the end of the year. We want to get them to you for a vote by the end of the year. We will also have articles of incorporation that will need to be approved. The exact time frame for the articles of incorporation. We will file with the State and federal IRS if all this gets done. This will allow us to take the next step in keeping our gambling licenses. Will this change anything we are doing? No, we intend to continue doing everything we are doing now. We

Help Us Choose Our Priorities For the 2024 Legislative Session
The 2024 Legislative Session will convene on Monday, January 8, 2024, for 105 consecutive days. This is the extended session of the Legislature, in which lawmakers will be tasked with passing biennial Operating, Capital, and Transportation budgets. Regardless of which party controls the House and/or Senate in 2024, ABATE of Washington will advocate for issues important to our membership and the motorcycle community.
In order to develop our 2024 legislative agenda and priorities, attached is a preview of the survey that will be discussed at our annual STEAM meeting in October. The survey will be given to each Chapter Coordinator, and more instructions will be given at STEAM. We want to know what is most important to your chapter.

American Income Life - FREE Accidental Life & Dismemberment | |

If you are a current non-expired member of ABATE of Washington, you will be receiving, or have already received a ‘beneficiary card’ in the mail from American Income Life (AIL).
These cards are mailed out annually to ABATE members as a reminder to update your beneficiary or add some ‘life insurance’ for yourself and/or your family. AIL provides a free ‘accidental death and dismemberment’ of up to $4000 to any non-expired ABATE member. What this means is: if you are involved in an accident and die or lose an arm/leg/eye, etc. AIL will pay you or your beneficiary up to $4000. AIL also offers other life insurance, and if you are interested in getting any type of life insurance or adding to what you already have, they can help you out.
What I’m asking of you members is, please, when they call, be considerate. They are just trying to do their jobs. If you are not interested in any other insurance, let them know and ask them to send you your certificate. If you would like to hear more about the insurance they provide, they will schedule a meet-up with you and give you other options. If you feel that you are being harassed after saying no, please get the person's name and phone number and send it to me.
I cannot stress enough about making sure your beneficiary is up to date with AIL or any other insurance policy you have. Finding out, after the fact, that someone you did NOT want to be the recipient of your demise is too late!
Please, this is a FREE benefit that AIL provides to non-expired ABATE Members, be courteous to them. Click here to read more…

We’ve had a very busy summer and sad that it’s winding down. Joe and I really enjoyed our road trip to Spokane for BOD – especially the “get-acquainted” dinner and drinks with some of our Hosts from Spokane Valley. The folks at Combat Vet Riders did an amazing job of hosting the BOD and being very pleasantly present with us. FOOTHILLS
Greetings from Foothills!
Doing big things, we participated & had a great time at the Wilkeson Day's Handcar Races in July. We are out meeting new people, as I write this, this week alone we introduced 6 new people to ABATE of Washington. Very excited for them to learn & see what our organization is all about. GRANT COUNTY
We are looking forward to our yearly event, Run to the Desert Motorcycle and Rat Rod Rally, August 25-27. This year it will be held at Smokiam Resort. Admission is free, but camping of all types needs to be arranged with the resort. We are asking for those traveling in to remember this is a fundraiser for Soap Lake food banks, so all food donations are much appreciated. READ MORE

Greetings from the 'Pen!
How's that heat treating ya!?! Definitely not fat kid friendly and I for one am not a fan! Makes for nice riding after dark and early in the morning though. Just be sure to keep your eyes wide open for those clove hooved creatures.
Several chapter members have had recent opportunities to rack up some long miles. Others of us had gotten out on some shorter trips together and even others have done their own thing riding solo this summer. For me, there is nothing quite like a leisurely couple hours of introspective wind therapy to sort my thoughts. READ MORE

Greetings everyone from Star Lake Chapter,
We had our monthly chapter meeting August 6th, 2023, 10am-11am at the coordinator’s home in Tacoma. The chapter discussed and submitted nominations for the four officer positions. The chapter will finalize and vote in the four officers at our next meeting. The chapter is in the final planning for the upcoming Hopes Closet ride event in September. Filling in the Blanks
Most people have a pretty clear memory of how they got hurt. Frequently their memories are punctuated with very specific details. “That son of a bitch looked me right in the eye before turning left.” “The front door mat was a bright pastel color.” “The impact made a sound just like an M-80 going off.” But when you go through something traumatic, like a motorcycle wreck, the brain isn’t focused on making memories—it’s focused on survival. The same mechanisms that keep the brain sharp enough to escape immediate danger may also make it harder to accurately recall the event.

He Passed Me Going 90 MPH
In just about every motorcycle case we have there
are allegations that our client was speeding. There are a couple of important things to know about the issue of motorcycle speed. The first relates to the reliability of witness observations. The second deals with the way courts deal with favored drivers exceeding the speed limit.
Witnesses are almost always wrong about
motorcycle speed. It may be based on the relatively small size of motorcycles compared to other vehicles. Or it may be based on witness bias.

Public Health and Relations Crisis
The concept of public health has really expanded. It used to focus on disease. Now it includes things like gun deaths. New York’s Governor recently declared
a gun violence disaster emergency. This new strategy treats gun violence as a public health crisis. We have a public health crisis of our own in Washington. It doesn’t have anything to do with guns. Or COVID-19. It has to do with motorcycles.

What the Jury Doesn't Hear
The evidence rules have a big impact on what the jury gets to hear (and what it doesn’t get to hear). Evidence can seem a lot like an iceberg: 10 percent visible, 90 percent below the surface.
