NIMS president offers new approach to OJT
Due to fast-paced, changing technologies and the unique specificity of their workplace tasks, employers are often challenged with cultural change, including overcoming the biases of traditional approaches to on-the-job-training (OJT).
Attendees at NCC’s September 22 Lunch and Learn with NIMS President Montez King were introduced to the advantages of an innovative approach to on-the-job training that pinpoints training opportunities in real time. Pictured with Mr. King are NCC Board Chair Greg Chambers, of Oberg Industries (left), and NCC President and CEO Neil Ashbaugh (center).
The NIMS Interactive Standards Viewer (ISV) is a public repository of industry-recognized Smart Standards -- building blocks for training and evaluation -- that employers and educators can explore. During his presentation, Mr. King drilled down on current training challenges employers encounter. He described the process NIMS followed to develop this three-pillar approach to address them, directly connecting training to the flow of work. Among the benefits are consistent delivery to universal standards and production that enables rapid responsiveness to change.
