Still time to register for National Manufacturing Day Open House!

Celebrate the vital maker industry!

MFG Day, organized by the Manufacturing Institute, is manufacturing’s biggest annual opportunity to inspire the next generation, positively shift perceptions about the industry, and build the foundation for the manufacturing workforce of the future. CBS News recently aired a piece highlighting how the Career and Technical Education Program at Carrick High School, among others, is preparing students for in-demand jobs. Check it out here.

New Century Careers is hosting an open house on Friday, October 6, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the NCC Training Innovation Center, South Side. Tour the center and learn about training opportunities -- including tuition-free Manufacturing 2000 machinist training -- meet trainers and trainees, too. The event is free but requires registration here. Parking is available in The Highline Garage behind NCC.

Can't make it on October 6? No problem! We'd be glad to schedule a tour on another day. Call 412-258-6620 or click here.

NIMS president offers new approach to OJT

Due to fast-paced, changing technologies and the unique specificity of their workplace tasks, employers are often challenged with cultural change, including overcoming the biases of traditional approaches to on-the-job-training (OJT).

Attendees at NCC’s September 22 Lunch and Learn with NIMS President Montez King were introduced to the advantages of an innovative approach to on-the-job training that pinpoints training opportunities in real time. Pictured with Mr. King are NCC Board Chair Greg Chambers, of Oberg Industries (left), and NCC President and CEO Neil Ashbaugh (center).

The NIMS Interactive Standards Viewer (ISV) is a public repository of industry-recognized Smart Standards -- building blocks for training and evaluation -- that employers and educators can explore. During his presentation, Mr. King drilled down on current training challenges employers encounter. He described the process NIMS followed to develop this three-pillar approach to address them, directly connecting training to the flow of work. Among the benefits are consistent delivery to universal standards and production that enables rapid responsiveness to change.

Contact NIMS for additional information and a consultation.
