If you’ve been around in the past week, you may have noticed we have a few new faces behind the checkout counter! Meet Brenna (left) and Justus (right)! We're thrilled to be partnering with the O'Niell Leadership Program in support of their internships, and look forward to the months ahead
a
Brenna, originally from Kansas City, is studying arts management. She serves as the Director of Alumni Relations for Kappa Delta Sorority and has interned with notable arts organizations including the St. Louis Art Museum and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.
a
Justus is from Jeffersonville, Indiana, and is studying healthcare management and policy. She serves as a council member for the Hutton Honors College Association and also as the Community Service Chair for the Women of Color Leadership Institute––and somehow still finds time to enjoy scrapbooking and Law & Order SVU!

We're looking for 2-3 individuals with sculpting experience to do a live pumpkin carving demonstration in front of the shop during Bloomington's Downtown Trick or Treat on Friday, Oct. 25 (5-8pm).
We're open to a variety of designs—not just faces! Whether it’s funky patterns, imaginative creatures, or something else, this would be a fun opportunity to showcase your skills, enjoy the festive atmosphere, and get paid $50/hour to do it!
Pumpkins are provided, and if you don’t have your own tools, we can help with that too.

If you’ve got experience in three-dimensional or relief work and are interested in joining forces for an evening, reach out to us at bfa.supply@gmail.com with some samples of your work!

Bloomington Symphony Orchestra
Community collaboration has been a core value since we opened last year. Over the past 10 months, we've provided nonprofits with free or low-cost art materials, donated fundraiser baskets, consulted on programming, and created custom interactive art pieces to support public initiatives and foster creative engagement.
| |
Now, we’re excited to take the next step in our commitment to arts solidarity by engaging in our first formal sponsorship role through a philanthropic contribution to the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra.
The organization’s mission states:
The Bloomington Symphony Orchestra supports and promotes lifelong participation in the performing arts. Through musical collaboration, performance, and education, we aim to have a positive impact on the creative fabric of our community.
a
We’re excited to partner with an organization with whose values we so closely align. BSO offers vital access to meaningful music experiences for performers and listeners alike, and we’re thrilled to support their impact on our community!

Earlier this year, I connected with Victoria Ritter, a writer for Art Materials Retailer, at the National Art Materials Trade Association convention. We had a great conversation, exchanged cards, and agreed to be in touch.
When she reached out over the summer about writing a story on the shop, I happily agreed. After a phone interview and emailing a few photos, I was excited to see the finished piece.
To my surprise, we're the Q3 issue cover story! The piece is beautifully written and thoughtfully explores more detail than I anticipated. We're so grateful to be featured, and for the kind outreach we’ve received from industry colleagues and brands who saw it.

This concludes my self-spotlight in a newsletter I write, about appearing on a magazine cover—a suggestion made by several people whose judgment I otherwise trust. In the next newsletter, I'll be sharing their prom photos. xo - HF
