WOMEN'S ADVOCATE UPDATE

The Women’s Advocate's job is to provide support and refer members to services in the community that will help them in their various situations such as workplace harassment and intimate partner violence and abuse.

Concentrating on your job would be very hard if you are going through problems at home. Data shows that many women experience domestic violence and that it has a negative impact on their safety, work performance, capacity to work and their ability to stay in their jobs.

When perpetrators use work-related resources to abuse a victim, this not only places the victim and co-workers at risk but also has related costs for employers, arising from lost productivity and lost days from work.

For anyone looking for help or any information, reach out to me anytime at womens.advocate@unifor594.com.

Sincerely, Lisa Taman, Women's Advocate

SOCIAL COMMITTEE UPDATE

Dave and the boys had lots of fun spinning beef hips once again for the Shutdown Shaker on May 23rd. It was nice to have such a great turnout for the event, given there were still night shifts and other shutdown activities happening.

The shutdown shaker is a rewarding evening celebrating our hand in the success of shutdown and to socialize with those we worked alongside the last several weeks.

Your entire Social Committee has been hard at work this summer organizing the Second Annual Golf Tournament.

Last year's golf tournament was such a success, that the tournament this year sold out within a week. If you were not able to secure a spot, keep an eye out for more events down the road.

The message is clear, union social events are important to building relationships and strengthening solidarity within our local.

As soon as the Golf Tournament wraps up we will be in full swing planning Unifor 594's annual Christmas Party, This year we are switching the venue back to the Italian Club. The date of this year's party will be Saturday, December 21st,

Save the date, and we hope to have another great turnout.

Congratulations

to the following 594 members on their recent retirement:

Lori Nelson- PDD (July 1, 2024)

Wayne Aldred- Fire & Safety (August 1, 2024)

  • Congratulations to Jason Shabatoski (Section 1B) and Laura who welcomed son Grayson to their family on July 21st, 2024.

  • Congratulations to Mason Belanger (Laboratory) who married Autumn on August 17, 2024, in Estevan.
