The author of The Guest List returns with The Midnight Feast, a thrilling murder mystery with plenty of twists and turns. It’s the opening night of The Manor, and no expense has been spared. Old friends and enemies circulate among the guests, and just outside the grounds, an ancient forest bristles with secrets. The suspense builds beautifully as chaos erupts. This plot will keep you guessing until the very end.
In the summer of 1974, Kate has accepted her place at the bottom of the social food chain. Then, to her surprise, the “coolest girl in the world” moves in across the street and wants to be her friend. On the surface they are opposites; by summer’s end they’ve become inseparable. Hannah's novel spans more than three decades, and reveals the powerful story of two women and their incredible friendship.
Wayward Pines is a quintessential small town, or so it seems. Secret Service agent Ethan Burke arrives in search of two missing federal agents, but soon he’s facing much more than he bargained for. Why can’t he make contact with the outside world? Each step toward the truth takes Ethan into the unknown, until he must face a horrifying fact: he may never get out of Wayward Pines alive.
Solar Bear by Beth Ferry, illustrated by Brendan Wenzel. A lovingly-crafted exploration of endangered species around the world, narrated by by a wise and gentle polar bear. Beautiful illustrations let the animals shine - literally - as each species is glowing in its natural habitat. The message is ultimately hopeful, and will inspire young readers to treat the natural world with care and respect.
Hocus Pocus, It's Fall! by Anne Sibley O'Brien, illustrated by Susan Gal. A brightly-colored celebration of the fall season! Each page features a flap that, when lifted, magically transforms the scene from summer to autumn. Watch the leaves shift from green to gold, the skies fill with migrating birds, the chipmunks gorge on fallen acorns, and the pumpkins transform into festive jack-o-lanterns.
September Exhibit - Drew Groves (Photography)
August 31 - September 27
The exhibit is centered on two predominant themes:
The Vulnerable - Those creatures I was blessed to have experienced, and that are recognized as having a precarious existence on Earth. They are listed as Vulnerable, Nearly Threatened, Threatened, Protected, Endangered, or even Critically Endangered. I present them so as to highlight their incredible uniqueness and critical importance to the preservation of the balance of our natural world.
Here and Afar - A collection of wildlife (fauna), flora, and landscapes from different parts of the world, as well as from our very local conservation lands in and around Bow and Dunbarton, and other parts of New Hampshire.
About the Artist:
I am a recently retired biology teacher from Bow High School as well as nature photographer. My intense passion with photographing the natural world was originally fueled mostly from wanting to share the amazing splendor of pristine wildernesses and the wonder of wildlife that I witnessed, with my family, and friends. Later, I realized how impactful my images could be in teaching students and others to appreciate and respect the beauty and delicate balance of our natural world.
I spend much of my time exploring New Hampshire’s ‘open spaces’ along with other areas up and down the east coast, Alaska...anywhere! I have taken several student groups to study diverse ecosystems including Belize and South Africa, and joined a Teacher Fellowship group as part of Ecology Project International in Costa Rica to aid in Leatherback sea turtle conservation. Needless to say, my camera equipment rarely leaves my side!! I am often asked, “What do you like to photograph?”, to which I reply, “Whatever gets in front of the lens - from the smallest dragonfly or ladybug, to the grandeur of a mountain ridge!”
