Merit Award from the Department of Public Health

We’re proud to announce that the Child & Family Center has received a Merit Award from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health for our Substance Use Treatment and Prevention Programs and the “Empowering Communities: From Data to Action” project.

In 2022, we collected 373 surveys from community members, which informed our prevention services and showcased our commitment to community needs.

Our agency will be featured on two merit plaque awards for aligning with departmental goals. Tina Kim, Ph.D., from the Department of Mental Health, praised our efforts: “Your hard work has truly made a difference!”

CEO Nikki Buckstead shared her excitement: “We’re thrilled to be recognized. Our community-driven, data-informed approach ensures we provide impactful services and can track our outcomes.”

A Healthy Team is a Happy Team

We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to Randelle Alicata, CPhT-ADV, and Audrina Shaw, Pharmacist at Walgreens Santa Clarita, for generously providing free flu shots to our staff. Their commitment to health and wellness not only keeps our team safe but also ensures that we can continue to deliver the best service to our community.

A healthy team is vital to our mission, enabling us to focus on our work without the worry of illness disrupting our efforts. Thank you, Randelle and Audrina, for supporting our health and well-being. Your contribution makes a significant difference, allowing us to thrive and serve with excellence!

Free Screening of Inside Out at Child & Family Center!

On Friday, September 13, Child & Family Center hosted a free screening of the beloved animated film Inside Out. Attendees enjoyed a fun evening filled with laughter, snacks, and valuable information on substance use prevention.

The event provided a unique opportunity for families to come together, engage in a meaningful discussion about emotional health, and learn about the resources available to promote substance use prevention in our community.

We are grateful to everyone who attended and contributed to the success of the event. Stay tuned for more community events that inspire and educate!

Drive Thru School Supply Giveaway!

As we wrapped up back-to-school season, our Antelope Valley Prevention Team hosted a successful drive-thru school supply giveaway event to support families in need.

Community members from Antelope Valley and Santa Clarita came out to receive free backpacks, school supplies, and healthy snacks for their students. We believe that access to essential school items is crucial for setting children up for success and alleviating stress for parents and guardians.

Dear Friends and Supporters,

As September arrives, bringing with it the start of fall, I’m reminded of the warmth and support our community provides. This month is particularly meaningful as we observe both National Alcohol and Drug Recovery Month and National Suicide Prevention Month—times for reflection and connection.

At Child & Family Center, we know that this time of year can be challenging, especially for children and teens as they transition back to school. Our team is dedicated to helping them navigate these difficulties, ensuring they have the support and resources they need to thrive.

We’re also excited to gear up for our annual Purple Walk! This special event is a wonderful opportunity to honor those on their journey and raise awareness about Domestic Violence. It’s more than just a walk; it’s a chance to come together as a community, showing our solidarity and compassion for those who need it most.

Let’s use this September to deepen our commitment to one another. By fostering open conversations about mental health and recovery, we can make a real difference in our community. As the leaves change, let’s embrace the spirit of togetherness and support each other through life’s ups and downs.

Thank you for being such an important part of our journey. I’m grateful for your continued support!

Warmly,
