Initial Meeting of the Social Work Compact Commission Scheduled for September 17 |
Upcoming is the first meeting of the Social Work Compact Commission on September 17th, from 9 am to 4 pm. Anyone may attend virtually. Registration and information may be found here:
https://swcompact.org/meetings/full-commission-meetings/. It is open to the public and the agenda may be found at the same link.
I will be there as your Executive Director, to monitor the conversation and progress, although ONLY the state representatives (the Commissioners) are speaking at this meeting, until the section for public comment (late in the day). If you have questions or concerns, please email me! This meeting will begin to lay the groundwork for the Interstate Licensure Compact Commission.
The full process of establishing the SW Compact Commission is expected to take 18-24 months at the minimum—so if you’re licensed in more than one state, continue to maintain your multistate licensure at this time using the regular renewal processes.

From the NASW-MO President’s Desk
Hello from DeAnna Dinwiddie, your NASW-MO Chapter President!
|
Thank you for electing me as your board president. I officially stepped into the role on July 1st and hit the ground running. It was an eventful first month, starting with our annual board retreat where we welcomed our newly appointed board members. For the first time in many years, we have a representative from every unit on our board! To get a better understanding of the NASW Chapter President's role, I participated in the NASW’s ALM (Association Leadership Meeting) training. This experience allowed me to connect with chapter presidents, presidents-elects, and executive directors from across the country. I learned a lot and was inspired by the creativity and passion for social work that everyone brought to the training. These experiences have shaped my primary goal for my presidency: enhancing engagement.

Ethically Speaking
Strengthen and Unify the Profession
by Heather Bradley-Geary, MSW
|
The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is the world's largest organization of professional social workers.NASW services social workers in 55 chapters throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, and abroad.NASW was formed in 1955 through a merger of seven predecessor social work organizations to carry out three responsibilities:
- Strengthen and Unify the Profession
- Promote the development of Social Work Practice
- Advance Sound Social Policies
As Social Workers, what are you doing each day to live by the principle of strengthening and unifying the profession? Do you identify yourself as a Social Worker? Do you live by your Code of Ethics each minute of the day? Do you lift other Social Workers up? Do you remind other Social Workers to live by their Code of Ethics? Do you unify and strengthen the profession?

| Your Inspiration for the Month | Your Inspiration for the Month honors Hispanic Heritage Month. It is the lovely “One Today” by Richard Blanco, which some of us remember from his reading this at the second Presidential Inauguration of Barack Obama in 2013. This poem tells of an America that is one, but not identical. A nation that moves united, but in which no one is erased. Although filled with punctuation, a careful read will note it ends without a period, exclamation, or question mark. It doesn’t even trail off with ellipses… It reads to me as a love song to our unfinished and eternally striving nation. When you read it, what do you hear? | | |
