Council Update

We had two Council Meetings in August, these are some of the items we took action on:

  • Approval of a resolution approving the Department’s annual Military Equipment Use Policy and Inventory list as required by Assembly Bill (AB) 481. (Approved 5-0)

  • Approval of a Request by Deputy Mayor Keim and Councilmember Weiss to direct staff to establish a program to assist eligible Oceanside low and moderate income level individuals and families to realize the dream of homeownership. Eligible Oceanside individuals and families would be placed on an eligibility list for the purchase of units in all new development projects providing on-site affordable units. Click here for more information. (Approved, 5-0)

  • Approval of a request by Councilmember Joyce and Mayor Sanchez to direct staff to schedule a Council Workshop on the Update to the General Plan in August/September for status and input; direction to staff. Motion to have a workshop after staff brings back recommendation and to set time and date for that workshop, and to have a general council item at a future meeting after the workshop. Click here for more information on the General Plan Update. (Approved, 5-0)

The following ordinance was also adopted by the Council on August 7th, 2024:

  • Adoption of an Ordinance extending Measure X (the temporary one-half cent general local transactions and use tax). This does NOT mean Measure X has been extended. This is simply an ordinance which allows for this measure to be put on the ballot this November to be decided by the voters. Click here for more information on Measure X. (Introduced on June 26, 2024, approved 5-0)

Our next City Council meeting will be on Wednesday, Sept. 11th, 2024 at 5:00pm.

Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony

Join the Oceanside Fire Department on Wednesday, September 11th, 2024 at the brand new Fire Station 1 for a special ceremony remembering the heroes who risked everything on that tragic day 23 years ago.  Getting Out in the Community in August

I attended a "Salute to First Responders" event hosted by our Assemblymember Laurie Davies. I had a great time seeing many familiar faces and recognizing the incredible job our first responders do every day. Thank you to Assemblymember Davies for highlighting the work of Oceanside's Police Department, Fire Department, and all other nearby agencies who provide their services to the people of Oceanside.

I was invited to participate in Biotechonology 101. I joined other North County elected officials and city representatives to receive a briefing about the biotechnology industry, its effects on regional prosperity, and Genentech’s new commercial biologics facility expansion. Thank you to San Diego North Economic Development Council for organizing such a great event and thank you to Genentech for hosting!

National Night Out was hosted by the Oceanside Police Department in August at OPD Headquarters. This annual event in Oceanside aims to strengthen the relationship between the police and the community. This event had free give away items to take home, police demos, performances, music, and tons of fun! Congratulations and thank you to OPD for a successful event!

I was invited to attend a Swearing In Ceremony hosted by MiraCosta Community College for their new officers. Congratulations to the new officers on this great achievement, I admire your willingness to serve your communities. Thank you to MiraCosta College for the invitation and allowing me to be a small part of this celebration.
