United Way 4th Annual Curd Crawl Fundraiser - Saturday, October 5, Noon-5:00pm

 

United Way is looking for volunteers to help with wristband and raffle ticket sales at each participating restaurant in downtown Manitowoc the day of the event.


Each volunteer will be paired with a board or staff member. Shifts are as little as 2-1/2 hours or the full event span of 5 hours.

We have a wide array of volunteer positions available on both Wednesday and Thanksgiving morning. Whether you like to be outdoors (Corner Monitor, Pumpkin Pie Handout, etc.) in the elements or staying warm inside (Registration, Packet Pickup, etc.), we have the volunteer job just for you!

Hunger Coalition of Manitowoc County's Thanksgiving Community Meal

 

The Hunger Coalition of Manitowoc County and Hope Community Church are again partnering this year to host a FREE Thanksgiving Community Meal for residents of Manitowoc County.


We are recruiting volunteers for the following:


  • Food Prep and Cleanup on 11/27 Noon-5:00pm
  • Drive-through Service on 11/28 9:30-11:30am
  • Dine-in Service on 11/28 11:00am-1:30pm

Meal Site Kitchen Support

 

Assist meal site manager with packing the home delivered meals for delivery, prepare and serve meals to meal site participants, engage with participants, and cleanup the dining site and kitchen. Weekdays, approximately 8:30am-12:30pm. Please call 1-877-416-7083 for current volunteer needs.

 

Home Delivered Meal Drivers

 

The ADRC is always looking for Home Delivered Meal Drivers for our Manitowoc Meal Site. Each day we deliver meals to the homebound between 11:00am-1:00pm. Pickup occurs at the Manitowoc Senior Center with a pre-determined route for fastest deliveries. Select the days that work for you or be a sub by helping when another driver is out. All volunteers must pass a background check. Drivers must have a clean driving record and be at least 18.

 

Transportation Drivers

 

Provide transportation for individuals who can no longer drive, so they may get to appointments and other activities, allowing them to remain an active part of their communities. Volunteers do not have to use their vehicle.

Maintenance Volunteer

Do you enjoy painting, carpentry, landscaping, or maintenance in general? We are looking for a skilled volunteer to help fix up our buildings. Must be at least 21.


Drivers


We are in need of drivers in the morning from 8:45 -10:00 am or in the afternoon from 2:30 - 4:00pm. Drivers would be dropping off clients at mobile work crews (job sites) and picking them up. If you have a CDL, you could also help us with deliveries and pickups. Must be at least 21.


Program Volunteers


Looking for volunteers to provide their talents with our clients. Example: Provide services related to hair styling, manicures, yoga, music classes, crafts, etc.

Same Day Surgery Volunteers


Are you passionate about supporting individuals during their healthcare journey? Do you thrive in a dynamic and caring environment? We're seeking dedicated volunteers to join our Same Day Surgery team and play a vital role in ensuring a seamless and comforting experience for our patients.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with maintaining cleanliness of patient rooms and clerical areas.
  • Spot clean counter tops and devices and tidy workspaces.
  • Keep appointed areas with necessary supplies.
  • Restock kitchen supplies.
  • Stock and set up patient rooms.
  • Help with patient discharges and transfers of belongings to inpatient units.


Volunteers must be at least 15.

Front Entrance Ambassador is an individual who has a warm and inviting presence. Ambassadors' first steps should make sure all visitors are met with a friendly greeting. Ambassadors guide, assist, and make your arrivals a seamless and delightful experience. They should provide helpful information, answer questions, help with wheelchair assistance, and help patients get to his/her appointments.

  • All volunteers should get a flu vaccination during flu season. Offer flu vaccinations free of charge!

Volunteer Ombudsman Program

The Board on Aging and Long Term Care is looking for amazing adults who are interested in improving the lives of local nursing home residents!


We need Volunteer Ombudsmen for Manitowoc County (but also have needs in surrounding counties, too!)


So, what does a Volunteer Ombudsman do?


These advocates:


  • are trained and supported by a local Volunteer Coordinator who is an expert in resident rights advocacy

  • visit with people who live at the volunteer's designated facility

  • educate residents about their rights

  • observe general facility conditions and activities and report observations to their Volunteer Coordinator

  • provide Board on Aging and Long Term Care materials and info to residents

  • empower residents and their families to resolve concerns or complaints

  • make life better for the elderly living in long term care facilities!

This volunteer opportunity is very flexible! Nursing home visits can be made between the hours of 8am-8pm, any day of the week, and visits last between 1-3 hours each. Visits can vary each week - you aren't held to a rigid schedule. 


No experience is needed - just a desire to make life better for the elderly. Training is provided.

Bartenders

Prepare and serve standard mixed drinks, beer, soft drinks, and occasional snacks to patrons in a timely manner. Stock the bar and clean up as needed. Shifts are typically three hours. There is no bartending license required.

Safety Leads

Safety Leads ensure that safety tasks are completed before, during and after shows. They assist patrons with special needs or disabilities to their seats. They lift, bend, climb stairs, and stand for long periods of time.

CASA - Court Appointed Special Advocate for Children

CASA Volunteer Advocates go through an initial training before being sworn in and assigned a child. Volunteers get to know the child by talking with everyone involved in that child's life including parents, relatives, foster parents, teachers, medical professionals, attorneys, social workers, and others. Volunteers use this information to inform judges and others of what the child needs and what will be the best permanent home for them via a monthly report. The recommended commitment is 1 hour per week visiting with the child in addition to taking time to connect with other people in the child's life as stated above. Volunteer Application

Equine Support Team & Team Lead


Equine Support Volunteers help keep the horses healthy and their areas in order. Mucking stalls / pastures, preparing grain, and feeding hay are the primary duties. We are looking for a number of people to help according to their schedules. Primarily Friday and Saturday. Great opportunity for a family or small group to do together. Training is provided.

Cycling Without Age: Become a Trained Tri Shaw Pilot


This opportunity would be a great fit for anyone wanting to become a trained Tri Shaw pilot. Cycling Without Age is a proactive program designed to create a world in which the easy access to active citizenship creates happiness among our senior citizens and gives them an opportunity to remain an active part of the local community. Felician Village residents enjoy the fun of riding with the breeze in their hair as they travel around the campus, around our local community, to the waterfront or even to get an ice cream. We have two identical Tri Shaw bikes. As long as you have strong legs and desire to help others, then there is plenty of space for you; couples encouraged to volunteer. We look forward to scheduling summer trips, weather permitting. Pilots must be 18 years of age and follow all safety guidelines. 


Cafe Volunteer Backup (as needed)


Felician Village is happy to announce that the Village Market Cafe will be open to the public in the Spring of 2023. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday 9:30am-1:30pm. Tasks include operate the register, pour coffee, dish out food, bag groceries, clean and sanitize tables. Volunteers will work directly with the Cafe supervisor. Must be at least 18.


Gardens Events/Backup Volunteers


This opportunity would be a great fit for individuals with just a casual interest in, or limited availability for volunteering. Occasionally one or more of our previously scheduled volunteers are not able to help with an activity they signed up for. For example, a Tuesday or Thursday morning exercise class, a dice game or Wii Bowling. Also some large group events may not have enough helpers. There are approximately six large events throughout the year. Most all of these activities are held during the day. In this role, you will be asked occasionally to help out, but you will never be obligated.


Helping Hands


Are you looking for a rewarding way to put your faith into action? Help our wheelchair-bound seniors attend worship service! Felician Village seeks volunteers to assist wheelchair-bound residents from their rooms to our campus Blessed Angela Chapel for worship services. No lifting and no experience required. All volunteers are trained and given individual guidance. We hope you will join us in providing this labor of love to our residents! Times: Tuesday and/or Thursday mornings, arrive @ 8:50am for a 9:30am service. Must be at least 18.


Felician Village On the Go Driver



Drive members to scheduled destinations within Manitowoc County in our new Chevy Equinox. Scheduled trips normally occur Monday-Friday. Hours vary monthly; you provide us your availability. Must be at least 21.


Handyman (as needed)


Looking for volunteers to perform minor repairs in Manitowoc County community members' homes. Tasks might include changing lightbulbs/batteries; tightening screws; changing filters; hanging photos; assembling small furniture or equipment; etc. Scheduled at your convenience. May be called upon once per quarter. Must be at least 18.

First Presbyterian Church
Help with Community Dinners

Each Wednesday First Presbyterian Church serves approximately 200 meals to the community. With rising inflation, this program has increasing importance to families struggling to make ends meet.

Volunteers are needed for kitchen prep work (Tuesdays or Wednesdays during the day) or serving (4:00-6:00pm Wednesdays). You can volunteer as often as fits your schedule.

Espresso Connection Coffee Shop

Looking for a fun way to spend a few hours every week? Come be a barista in our Espresso Connection Coffee Shop. We currently have several shifts available. Looking for once-a-week commitment, 3 to 4-hour shifts.

Escort/Transport

Join our team of volunteers that help patients and families navigate the hospital campus. It is a great way to stay active while making a difference in the lives of those we serve.

Surgery Lounge Volunteer

We are looking for friendly and outgoing volunteers that would help keep visitors informed of their loved one's progress while waiting for them during their surgical procedure. In this role you will offer families snacks and keep them comfortable during their stay in our surgery lounge. This commitment is one 4-hour shift per week. Morning and afternoon shifts available.

Information Desk Volunteer

Do you love helping people? This role is for you at our information desk at Froedtert Holy Family Memorial Hospital. Duties include greeting patients and visitors, answering phones, giving directions, and working with our transport team to be sure the patient gets to their location safely. We are currently in need of afternoon and evening shifts (4:00-6:00pm).

Heart-A-Rama Show Program Coordinator


An integral part of the Advertising Committee, the Program Coordinator oversees the publishing of the annual Heart-A-Rama show program. Are you looking for a rewarding way to help others? Volunteers make Hope House possible. Our team of volunteers provides compassionate support for those working on their goals during a challenging time in their lives. Join us as we help guide them to independence.

 

You may socialize with residents, welcome new families, and assist our families by providing a listening ear. Some days, just asking “How was your day?” can show you care and that they are not alone. Volunteers may conduct children's activities, help with homework, watch a movie or put a puzzle together with children. Or if you prefer to read a book or stay in our volunteer office, your interaction is at your comfort level.

 

Volunteer shifts are 3 hours long and are available each week with no obligations. Even one shift a month is a great help to us. You can join our 7-week rotation cycle to be notified of open shifts, or let us know if you can be a volunteer back-up, too. Sometimes volunteers are not able to come in and we call our back-up volunteers to help fill last minute shifts. You are not obligated to sign up, we just ask if you are available.

 

Daytime: Saturdays and Sundays 8-11am, 11am-2pm, 2-5pm

Evening: Shifts are from 5-8pm each night

 

Would you like to see what we’re all about? We would be happy to give you a tour and learn more about our Mission and how we serve those in need. Homelessness can happen to anyone, each story is unique. We provide a safe space for families to stay while they reach housing stability. Training is available online and at your convenience. We also need volunteers for special projects which may include painting walls, cleaning and reorganizing our storage room and more. Groups are welcome too! Children's Services

Plan activities with children and/or families. Play games, do crafts, teach a skill, make a new snack, help with homework, supervise children in the shelter during support group, etc. Activities can be provided by families, adults or groups in the evening, weekends, or during the day in summer.

Shelter Helper

Assist residents as needed with daily living skills: applying for jobs and housing, making meals, budgeting, etc. Plan activities such as games or crafts for adults. Can be done anytime by individuals, families or groups.

Maintenance/Building & Grounds Volunteer

Looking for a maintenance volunteer (or several volunteers) that would be interested in a variety of tasks to help with upkeep of our building and grounds. This could include replacing lightbulbs, furnace filters, etc.; minor repairs in administrative and shelter buildings; ordering building and maintenance supplies; picking up food orders; shelving donated items in storeroom and rotating stock; sweeping near entryways and outside sitting areas; filling toilet paper, paper towel and soap dispensers; other maintenance duties as assigned. Must be at least 18.

Sexual Assault On-Call Advocacy (SAVS)

Are you calm under difficult situations? Are you skilled at offering support to those who have experienced trauma? We are looking for volunteers to be on call for two 12-hour shifts per month to provide crisis intervention and support for victims, family members, and friends. Twenty hours of training provided. Must be at least 18.

CST Mentors

The youth involved in the CST program are in need of mentors. This has been one of the most successful services that the CST has offered to our youth, and due to program growth there is a greater need for mentors. Mentors are volunteers who are willing to dedicate one hour or more a week to youth in our community who would benefit from a consistent adult relationship. Must be at least 18.

Adult Literacy Tutor

Volunteer tutors work one-on-one with adults seeking to improve basic literacy and English language skills. Tutoring times are flexible to suit volunteer's availability. Tutors typically spend about 1-2 hours/week tutoring. No prior tutoring or teaching experience is required - just patience and the desire to help another adult. Tour Guide

Tour guides will guide groups of visitors of all ages through the museum on guided tours and engage them in conversations and activities relating to exhibits. Enthusiasm for art and history are required. Tours generally occur during museum open hours, Tuesday through Friday from 10:00am – 4:00pm and weekends from 11:00am to 4:00pm. Primary audiences are grade school children and retired adults but vary by group. Patient Visitors


As a patient visitor volunteer you will work with our patients and families through social visits, providing a crucial role in compassionate support and companionship. You may engage in conversation, provide respite care, or offer other supportive help. You may also choose to become a part of our No One Dies Alone program, ensuring patients at end of life are never alone.


We Honor Veterans


If you are a current or former member of the military or foreign service, you are eligible to volunteer as part of our We Honor Veterans program. Volunteers who are veterans can help recognize patients who are veterans with a special ceremony or through social and companionship visits.

BINGO Facilitators


Every Friday we have BINGO Brunch, where both individuals and businesses can come in, provide light brunch food, and facilitate BINGO. Kitchen Volunteers


Job Duties: Package cold and hot meals for meal recipients, as directed, in a clean and safe manner. Load coolers for delivery by route, ensuring completeness and accuracy. Assist in serving lunch at the Senior Center. Wash dishes, clean, and sanitize work areas.


Requirements: No food service experience is needed; our staff will guide you. Volunteer should enjoy working in teams and be able to adhere to safety and health codes, stand for long periods of time, and work within time constraints.


Weekday availability between 8:00am and 1:00pm. Must be at least 18.

Pub Desk Greeter

Greet and direct guests to the rooftop bar. Be available to assist with cleanup at the end of the evening. Answer questions and monitor museum entrances and galleries.

Tour Group Docent

Greet bus tour groups and give them instructions/direction upon arrival. Help organize the group into smaller groups for tours. If requested, be a gallery guide and answer questions. Assist the groups with any special needs during the visit.

Education Assistant

Assist with school groups by teaching a program to students, reading books to young children, and/or giving gallery tours (maybe on the submarine too). Shifts and hours will vary depending on group sizes and visit times.

Tour Assistant

Sit at our Tour Guide desk and help visitors with our new audio tour. Assist them in downloading or using it, give directions for getting into the sub, go over the rules, answer questions, and monitor the security cameras.
