Extra Curricular Activities / Team Coaches and Team Mangers

We are looking for volunteers to help run extra-curricular physical activities and school club activities, which provide opportunities to improve physical fitness, health, skills, personal and social lives.

We are also looking for volunteers to coach athletic teams at a competitive level, as well as managers, who will help organize their team and arrange involvement in competitions, etc.

The age groups for competitive sport involvement are:

Elementary (Grades 4, 5 and 6)

Junior High (Grades 7, 8 and 9)

Senior High (Grades 10, 11 and 12)

Extra Curricular Clubs

We are open to creating diversity in our programming. Would you like to volunteer and help us expand our extra curricular clubs? The possibilities are plentiful; a Yoga Club, Bike-Riding Club, Walking Club, Table-Tennis Club, etc. What type of after-school physical activities do you think your children would enjoy? Let us know!

We are interested in volunteers who can create opportunities for Cohorts, not necessarily for a single grade level - for example, K-3, 4-6 and/or 7-12.

If you are able to volunteer at any time during the school year please contact the Athletic Director, Mr. Chris Bridon via email at cbridon@stbons.ca for Junior/Senior High or our Athletic Director, Ms. Brianne Chafe at bchafe@stbons.ca for K-6.

Recycling

A great way to support the school is by recycling your beverage containers. Bring your items to the local EverGreen depot and enter the school phone number (709-726-0024) on the self-serve screen, obtain stickers for your bags and pass them in.

What's Happening at St. Bon's?

Welcome to another exciting school year, where the halls are filled with renewed energy, the classrooms are a buzz with curiosity, and the rhythm of school life has begun again. We are thrilled to be back! Before we dive into all that’s ahead, here is a glimpse of how we started the year:

  • We launched into the new school year with our annual Meet the Community and Curriculum Night. Parents and guardians mingled with faculty over hors d'oeuvres in the Aula Maxima, reconnecting and learning about ways to get involved. Afterwards, they stepped into their children’s classrooms, met teachers, explored the curriculum, and got a feel for the year ahead. It was a vibrant and welcoming start to the year.

  • We have started the year with a strong lineup of programs to encourage students to get involved beyond the classroom. The Band and Choral Programs, including Beginning Band, Phoenix Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, Treble and Chamber Choirs, to name a few, have resumed, while Homeroom Houses are bringing students together across grades for social-emotional learning. Athletics are underway with cross country, outdoor soccer, volleyball, and ultimate frisbee, while the SBC Hockey Program returned with early morning ice sessions. Clubs including Dungeons & Dragons, French for Life, Creative Writing, and Homework Haven added even more ways for students to connect, explore interests, and build skills.

  • We welcomed Miteau Andreus, a Novice in the Jesuits, who will be with us for the school year. Miteau graduated from National High School Charlemagne Péralte in Saint-Raphaël, Haiti, in 2017. He was part of a group who trained the residents of Saint-Raphaël in self-leadership and worked in the parish office. He also gave retreats to candidates for the sacraments of Baptism and Communion. Miteau will be assisting with retreats, service programs, and sports. He will also support academics in both Mullock and Holland Halls.

  • As part of Campus Ministry, Fr. Jim Fleming visited our Senior High students to speak about vocations and the many ways we can serve within the Church. He shared his personal journey, offering insight and inspiration, and engaged in thoughtful conversation with students who asked many meaningful questions.

  • Last week, St. Bon’s had the honour of hosting the Jesuit Schools Network Board for their first ever visit to Newfoundland! Mrs. Mallay attended outside meetings as a Board member, while Mr. Handrigan and staff welcomed the board into our school, offering them a glimpse into daily life at St. Bon's. The visit included a school Mass and social gathering, where our student choir and Traditional Jazz Combo, led by Mrs. Etchegary, performed beautifully. Their music added a meaningful touch to the day and helped showcase the warmth and spirit of our community.

  • Our Grade 8 Social Studies class took a one-period field trip that brought their learning to life. The outing began with a walk past the Sergeant’s Memorial, followed by a visit to the War Memorial on Water Street. There, students explored the statues and plaques, taking a moment to honour the unknown soldier with quiet reflection. This experience allowed students to connect deeply with the curriculum, seeing firsthand the significance of remembrance and sacrifice. As November 11th approaches, it’s a timely reminder to pay respect to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

  • Our Grade 3 and 10 classes were invited to participate in a ceremony of reflection and remembrance on the grounds of Government House. The ceremony took place in the Heart Garden, which was erected in 2019 to remember everyone affected by the residential school system, those who survived, and those who never made it home.

  • Students and staff wore orange today in recognition of National Truth and Reconciliation Day, which honours Indigenous children and survivors of residential schools. The gesture served as a visible reminder of our commitment to learning, reflection, and respect for the ongoing journey toward reconciliation.
