Fall is in the air in Downtown Burlington, and the Jefferson Street Farmers Market is the perfect place to celebrate the season! Pumpkins, squash, apples, and baked goodies are filling vendor stands, offering shoppers all the cozy tastes and colors of autumn.
Hosted by Downtown Partners, Inc., the Jefferson Street Farmers Market has been a hub of community activity all summer long, and September promises to keep that energy rolling. Each Thursday evening, residents and visitors gather to enjoy the best in local produce, handmade goods, delicious food, and live entertainment.
Thanks to the continued support of Shottenkirk Superstore, September will be another month filled with music, fun, and flavor in the heart of Downtown Burlington. With Jefferson Street closed to traffic between 3rd and 6th Streets, it’s the ideal place to stroll, shop, dine, and connect with neighbors.

September 12, 5 PM - 8 PM
Enjoy a stroll through historic Downtown Burlington on a gorgeous fall evening and sample variety of local wines, sweet treats, cocktails, mocktails and brews from a variety of local businesses.

Jefferson Street Farmers Market: Pet Day & Parade!

Get ready for one of the most beloved traditions at the Jefferson Street Farmers Market, Pet Day and the Pet Parade & Costume Contest! On Thursday, September 18 at 5:30 PM, Downtown Burlington will go to the dogs (and cats… and maybe even a few other surprises!) in the cutest way possible.
Furry friends and their humans are invited to gather at The Beancounter Coffeehouse & Drinkery by 5:20 PM, where the parade will kick off promptly at 5:30 PM. Whether your companion is fluffy, feathery, or scaly, this is their time to shine!

Downtown Deets Training: Cybersecurity Essentials for Small Businesses
Friday, September 19, 8:30 – 9:30 AM
Downtown Partners, Inc. invites Downtown business owners and Chamber members to the next Downtown Deets professional development session, focused on one of the most pressing concerns for today’s business landscape: Cybersecurity.
Hosted by the Economic Vitality Committee, this informative session will be held on Friday, September 19 at 8:30 AM at the Greater Burlington Partnership office.
The session will be led by Todd M. Ackerman, President – Iowa Unit Leader for World Insurance Associates. With over 28 years of experience in the insurance and financial services industry, Ackerman provides strategic insight and real-world expertise in cybersecurity and risk management. He previously served as President and CEO of Two Rivers Insurance Services, where he helped grow the firm into a multi-dimensional provider of benefits, property and casualty insurance, and risk solutions for businesses and individuals.
Ackerman holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and a Master of Business Administration from Oklahoma City University, along with a Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist designation. He also serves on the Downtown Partners, Inc. Board and coaches the Burlington Notre Dame women’s high school soccer team.
Attendees will gain insight into:
- Common cybersecurity risks targeting small businesses
- Steps to protect customer data and company systems
- How to recognize phishing attempts and scams
- Best practices for staff training and password management
- What to do if your business experiences a cyber attack
This session offers practical takeaways for owners, managers, and anyone responsible for safeguarding customer data and business systems.

Downtown Trick-or-Treat
October 24
Downtown Burlington will once again be the place to be this spooky season!
On Friday, October 24 from 4–6 PM, families are invited to bring their ghouls, goblins, princesses, and superheroes to Jefferson Street for the annual Downtown Trick-or-Treat. Kids can trick-or-treat safely while exploring downtown businesses, many of which will be handing out candy and treats.
This fun community tradition offers families a chance to enjoy Burlington’s historic downtown while celebrating Halloween in a family-friendly atmosphere. Businesses up and down Jefferson Street will be decked out and ready for little visitors to stop by with their candy buckets in hand.

Witches Night Out is a popular event with a spin on "Ladies Night Out." Downtown will be taken over by Witches and their "Ghoul Friends" as they stop into local retailers, eateries and drinkeries and have a night on the town.
This event is growing year by year with hundreds of witches taking to the street and visiting each location on the map for samples, bling, and goodies. Tickets are $15 before Oct 1.

Twisted Cat Outdoors Tournament Casts Off at the Riverfront
September 6
Downtown Burlington’s riverfront will be the place to be on Saturday, September 6, 2025, as Twisted Cat Outdoors brings its No Excuse Tour to Pool 19 of the Mississippi River. The full-day event promises high-energy competition, community excitement, and a celebration of the great outdoors.
Hosted at the Port of Burlington, the tournament will run for more than 11 hours, drawing anglers and outdoor enthusiasts from across the region. Whether you are casting a line as a competitor, cheering on participants, or simply soaking up the electric atmosphere along the riverfront, this event is set to be a highlight of the season.

Burlington River Days Lite
September 20
Downtown Burlington isn’t done rocking just yet!
River Days Lite is coming to the Burlington riverfront on Saturday, September 20, bringing music, fun, and community spirit to close out the season in style.
The evening will feature Old Skool Overdrive, a local favorite known for delivering high-energy rock covers that will have the crowd singing and dancing all night long. Best of all, this event is FREE!
In addition to the music, guests can take part in a big raffle and enjoy cold drinks by the river. Proceeds from beer sales and raffle entries will go directly toward supporting entertainment for Burlington River Days 2026, so every sip and ticket helps keep the music alive for years to come.
And the party doesn’t stop there! After the show on the riverfront, keep the energy going at the Capitol Theater, where Decade of Decadence will transport you back to the glam and glory of the 1980s rock scene.

Pint By Number: Downtown Bar Crawl
September 20, 2025
Downtown Burlington is set to host a one-of-a-kind evening experience with Pint By Number: Downtown Bar Crawl on Saturday, September 20, 2025. This creative event combines the fun of a bar crawl with the artistry of paint-by-number, offering participants a memorable night of art, drinks, and community.
The evening begins at the Art Center of Burlington, where participants will receive an 8x10 mounted paint-by-number canvas designed by artist Craig Fleece of one.dayart, along with paints and brushes. From there, attendees will visit four pre-selected downtown bars, each providing the missing colors needed to complete the artwork. With every stop, participants can enjoy a drink while adding to their masterpiece.
The crawl concludes back at the Art Center, where participants will add final touches to their paintings and take part in awards and prizes across several fun categories.
This event is expected to sell out quickly. Community members are encouraged to register early and be part of a downtown evening that blends creativity with nightlife in a fresh, engaging way.

Rudnitsky, known for his quick wit, sharp observations, and memorable performances, will bring a night of high-energy comedy to launch the new season in style.

POPS 2025: Bohemian Rhapsody in Blue
September 14
Downtown Burlington will come alive with a fusion of rock and classical brilliance as the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra presents POPS 2025: Bohemian Rhapsody in Blue on Sunday, September 14.
This dynamic program pairs two iconic works: the operatic drama and rock energy of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody with the jazz-infused sophistication of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. Featuring acclaimed pianist Casey Dierlam Tse, the performance will capture the spirit of innovation, passion, and bold musical storytelling. The concert is made possible through the generous support of the Mary Ann Baker Foundation.
Dinner Ticket Option
Audiences can enhance their evening by reserving a dinner ticket, available for $75 per person. Each dinner reservation includes:
- A dinner reservation at a participating venue
- One complimentary alcoholic beverage
- A general admission ticket to the concert
Guests who reserve online will receive a confirmation call from a symphony board member representing their selected venue prior to the concert.

Great River Bridge Race
September 20
The 29th Annual Great River Bridge Race will take place on Saturday, September 20, offering participants a unique opportunity to cross the iconic Great River Bridge on foot. Hosted in Burlington, the event features a 10K run, 5K run/walk, and a Bridge Walk, making it accessible for all ages and fitness levels.
This longstanding community tradition combines fitness, scenic views, and fun, drawing participants from across the region. Whether running for a personal best or walking for the experience, everyone is welcome to take part in this memorable event.
Proceeds from the race benefit the Burlington Parks & Recreation Department, supporting local park improvements and community programs.

Downtown Partners, Inc. Launches Fundraiser for Art Installations
Downtown Partners, Inc. (DPI) is excited to announce a new Fundraiser Campaign aimed at bringing even more life, art, and community to the heart of Burlington. This initiative will focus on activating alleyways, installing additional public art, and creating social gathering spaces designed to foster a true neighborhood vibe. With more seating areas, creative installations, and inviting décor, Downtown Burlington will continue to evolve as a welcoming place to gather, connect, and enjoy.
To make the campaign both fun and rewarding, DPI is offering a special thank-you for early investors. The first 25 donors contributing $200 or more will receive two (2) V.I.P. second-story indoor seats at The Busted Cup Brewhouse during the 2025 Lighted Holiday Parade on November 29, 2025. This exclusive V.I.P. experience includes four complimentary drinks, appetizers, and a warm, dry spot to enjoy one of Burlington’s most cherished holiday traditions.

Blade signs have several benefits:
- Accentuating the traditional historic and walkable character of Downtown Burlington
- Emphasizing the Downtown district as a collection of small, independent, locally owned businesses
- Adding to the liveliness of the streetscape
- Freeing up sidewalk space occupied by sandwich board signs
