Dear RBUSD Students & Families,

Welcome to the 2025-26 school year!

We are off to a wonderful start and are thrilled to share the energy and excitement we’ve seen across our district since the first day of school. It has been heartwarming to welcome everyone back, and we are grateful for the dedication of our teachers, staff, and administrators who spent the summer preparing our campuses. From maintaining and improving school grounds, to training, welcoming new hires, and kicking off the year with a spirited Back-to-School Rally on August 18th, their commitment to our students shines through in every detail.

New teachers were welcomed at District orientation and trained on RBUSD culture and keys to success

This summer, our newly hired teachers participated in two days of engaging training designed to welcome them into the RBUSD family. The sessions highlighted our district culture, goals for the year, strategies for success, and an overview of our technology and student information systems.

Our new teachers shared that they valued both the chance to connect with colleagues and the strong emphasis on student-centered culture, noting, “I appreciated the opportunity to meet and bond with my fellow new teachers,” and, “I really appreciated the emphasis placed on the culture of the district — it’s all about the students.”

Thank You, Volunteers!

We want to thank the many volunteers who prepared our elementary school gardens for the Beach Cities Health District’s LiveWell Garden program. Each school has a dedicated “Garden Angel” who cares for these spaces and keeps them ready for planting and harvesting. This partnership with BCHD enriches the healthy learning experiences of our students.

Smooth Transitions & Strong Connections

This year began with a strong sense of community connection. Before school started, our elementary families enjoyed teacher meet-and-greets and ice cream socials, while middle schoolers participated in Camp Adams and Camp Parras orientations, and incoming freshmen were welcomed through orientation at RUHS. These events made the transition into the new school year smooth and welcoming for all.

The new school year has begun with a sense of ease and excitement. Walk into any classroom and you’ll find students engaged, curious, and ready to explore. Across our campuses, the joy is visible in the laughter at recess, the confident hellos in the hallways, and even at morning drop-off, where our youngest learners are arriving with growing confidence and big smiles. It’s clear they feel cared for and eager to be part of their school community!

Help Shape Our Parent Education Series

Parents are key to students’ learning, growth, and well-being. RBUSD is planning a Parent Education Series to give families practical tools to strengthen the school-home partnership. We’d like your input on topics for this series, so please complete this short form. Our first workshop is tentatively set for September 25, 2025.

Staying Connected with District Communications

Whether your student is returning to the same school or starting at a new one, our goal is to help you stay connected with all the happenings in our district. We have several information resources available:

Each school has a version of the communication information with their specific communication protocols (as seen below), which you can find on your school’s website. All schools use Parent Square as the primary platform for communicating with parents. We recommend you download the App on your phone for timely communication (see below for more details).

  • RBUSD Social Media: Follow us on our RBUSD social media accounts to stay up-to-date with the latest news, events, and highlights. Follow us @RBUSD on Facebook and @redondobeachusd on Instagram.
  • Parent Square: Subscribe to your school-specific communications by signing up through ParentSquare and downloading the ParentSquare app. Click to download on an Android device, or an iOS device.
  • Monthly Superintendent Newsletter: In these monthly newsletters, the district’s accomplishments, school highlights, key information, and progress toward strategic goals are shared. Newsletters are emailed and are available on the district website
  • Bi-Monthly School Board Presentations: Stay informed about the decisions and discussions from our board meetings through the board meeting agendas, recorded meetings and presentations available on our website.
  • PTA/PTSA Emails: Keep an eye out for emails from your school's PTA or PTSA for information about school-specific events and volunteer opportunities.
  • Learn how the Redondo Beach Education Foundation impacts ALL students on their website rbef.org
  • School Year in Review: Be on the lookout for our 2024-25 School Year in Review, sent to all Redondo Beach residents. You can also preview it HERE.

In RBUSD, we are committed to timely, transparent, and supportive communication. Part of our mission is to help students grow as confident self-advocates. For parents and guardians of upper-grade and secondary students, we encourage you, when appropriate, to guide your student to first reach out directly to their teacher, counselor, or administrator. This empowers them to build responsibility, problem-solving skills, and independence.

We invite you to review our RBUSD Communications Guidelines, which outline the best pathways for communication. In addition, each school site will share its own communication protocol with families through the Principal’s Weekly Newsletter.

Together, by modeling clear and respectful communication, and by strengthening our communication protocols to better serve and respond to our students’ and families’ needs, we can ensure that every student feels heard, supported, and set up for success.

As the year unfolds, we are optimistic that the strong start we’ve experienced will lead to continued growth, accomplishments, and a deepened sense of community. We are grateful for your ongoing partnership in ensuring that RBUSD remains a place where every student can flourish.

With appreciation,

Your Superintendent,

Nikki Wesley, Ed.D.
