Dear Friends,
One of my favorite things about our chapter is how our programs are shaped by you, our members. This month’s luncheon topic is a perfect example. A thoughtful ethics question about how organizations should handle benefits when event sponsorships are received from foundations was submitted and from there, we built a program that will be helpful to so many of us (and our colleagues in finance and accounting too!).
On Monday, September 8, we’ll welcome Kim Crawford, CPA, Partner at Sutton Frost Cary, LLP, for “Accounting for Fundraising.” Kim will walk us through some of the trickiest areas we face in nonprofit fundraising: distinguishing donations from sponsorships, handling in-kind gifts and gift cards, recording raffles versus auctions, and making sense of special event costs. She’ll also cover qualified sponsorship payments and tax considerations you need to know to keep your organization compliant and avoid unintended risks.
This session isn’t just for fundraisers—it’s a must-attend for anyone who touches sponsorship benefits, records gifts, generates tax letters, or manages fundraising events. If you’ve ever paused over how to code an in-kind gift or wondered whether something should be treated as sponsorship or underwriting, this program will bring much-needed clarity.
I encourage you to invite your finance or accounting teammates to join us. It’s a great chance for all of us to learn together, strengthen our processes, and ensure we’re leading with both transparency and confidence.
I look forward to seeing you there!
