SEPTEMBER 2025 NEWSLETTER

Fall is here, and with it comes a season of reflection and gratitude. The close of summer has been a very busy time for the Alliance: we've shared new research summaries, produced new awareness campaigns and partner collaborations, and celebrated the joy of connecting through not one but four(!) events. Each moment reminds us of the strength and heart within this community.

This September, we've focused on raising awareness for both Ovarian Cancers and Peritoneal Mesothelioma. Thank you to everyone who took time to learn, share, and stand with those impacted. Your support helps shine light on these cancers that too often are misunderstood and go unnoticed.

All these events and activities have us feeling inspired as we head into fall. We carry this momentum forward and invite you to join us with opportunities to advocate and connect!

With thanks,

The Abdominal Cancers Alliance Team

Join Us in Raising Awareness All Year Long

Our work to raise awareness about abdominal cancer diagnoses and what patients can do about them doesn't end when our events are over. We sustain this effort all year long - and you can help us keep it going!

Last month we launched a new initiative to mobilize members of our community who want to help more patients and families learn about abdominal cancers and treatment options that can help extend and improve their lives! So far, our advocates have shared our message with hundreds of network connections the Alliance could never reach alone, and they've raised more than $15,000 to fuel our work raising awareness!

Story of the Month

Cancer Has a New Face

Lisa Daniels was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer and her family just wanted to know her life expectancy. Instead of a number of years, she was reassured that her doctors would save her life. Now, she expresses herself through an original poem she wrote and performed during our HIPEC Awareness Talent Show in Baltimore in 2023.

We want to give others hope! We all have a story to tell, and we would be honored to share yours. Join us in raising awareness and send us your story today!

Research Spotlight

CRS/HIPEC Improves Survival in Peritoneal Mesothelioma

A new study has shed light on how different treatments affect outcomes for people with malignant peritoneal mesothelioma (PM), a rare cancer that forms in the lining of the abdomen, also referred to as the peritoneal cavity. Joining a broad body of research demonstrating the efficacy of CRS/HIPEC in the treatment of abdominal cancers, this study shows that PM patients who were able to receive CRS/HIPEC had much longer survival compared with those treated with chemotherapy alone.
