One of the most powerful ways to showcase the impact of our donor community is through the voices of those who witness it firsthand. Dr. Jill Friebele, pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon at Valley Children's, shares how philanthropy is transforming lives through our Adaptive Sports Program.
"At Valley Children's, I've had the privilege of witnessing something truly extraordinary: children and young adults discovering their strength, confidence and joy through our Adaptive Sports Program."
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, youth with physical disabilities and mobility impairments are participating in recreational and athletic experiences — completely free of charge. From water skiing and rock climbing these activities aren't just fun, they're life-changing.
In 2024, Valley Children's proudly joined the National Wheelchair Basketball Association for the first time. This milestone was made possible by donors like J.G. Boswell, the Beck family, the McCaffrey family and the Tesoro Viejo community, whose support allowed us to purchase specialized wheelchairs that empower our athletes to compete at their highest level.
The Adaptive Sports Program serves children and teens with conditions such as cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries and limb differences. But it's not just about sports, it's about building community. Families come together, share their journeys and create lasting connections rooted in encouragement and support.
Every moment of joy, every piece of equipment and every event we host is a direct result of donor generosity. This program is a shining example of what we can achieve with the power of philanthropy. Valley Children's was filled with joy and generosity thanks to our incredible Children's Miracle Network partner, Panda Express. As part of their annual Panda Cares Day celebration, the Panda team delivered more than 200 delicious meals to our patients and families — bring comfort, smiles and full hearts to our hospital community.
Their kindness didn't stop there. Panda Express associates also spent time with our patients, coloring together and creating meaningful moments that brightened everyone's day. We are deeply grateful for Panda Express and their continued commitment to the health and happiness of children and families across the Central Valley.

This past May, DJ Dan Entertainment partnered with generous community members to host Pickleball for a Cause, a tournament benefiting Valley Children’s.
The event raised $11,500 in support of Valley Children’s NICU and collected toys and books for donation. Contributions included items from the traveling library, books from Save Mart and handmade cards created by the event team.
On the day of the check presentation, organizers shared that their original goal was to support children and families during a difficult time. They were moved to learn that the funds raised will directly benefit NICU patients and families.
We are incredibly grateful for the compassion, creativity and generosity of everyone involved. It’s because of community members like you that we’re able to continue delivering exceptional care to the children we serve.

A heartfelt thank you to Brooklyn and Payten, two remarkable cousins who recently hosted a bake sale to support Valley Children’s.
Brooklyn, a graduate of Valley Children’s NICU, spent six weeks in our care after being born nine weeks premature. Today, she and her cousin Payten are giving back to help other children and families receive the same compassionate care.
We sincerely appreciate Brooklyn and Payten for their generosity, kindness and commitment to making a difference right here in the Central Valley.
