Working Wellness Into A Busy Schedule

Fitting Fitness into a Busy Schedule

The most common excuse for avoiding exercise is, "I don't have time." But consider this: there are 24 hours in a day, and adults are recommended to sleep for eight of them. That still leaves 16 hours for everything else — work, daily tasks, and distractions.

It's likely you can find 10 to 15 minutes by reducing distractions—such as watching TV, online shopping, or browsing social media—to be active and support your health.

Sticking to these tips can create a realistic workout catered to a busy life:

  • Plan ahead and add it to your calendar
  • Aim for 10 minutes, three times a day
  • Do the little things
  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator
  • Complete 10 pushups when you wake up in the morning
  • Do jumping jacks, squats or burpees during commercial breaks while watching TV
  • Walk around your neighborhood
  • If you sit at a desk for work, get out of your chair every 20 minutes to do calf raises or stretch
  • Set an alarm to keep you moving throughout the day
  • Let yourself experiment
  • Allow time to experiment with different workout routines and activities
  • Start slowly and reflect on how you feel
  • Discover workouts and exercises you enjoy during this experimental time
  • Identify with personal fitness goals
  • Find a plan that works for you and your goals

Mental Wellness Tips for a Busy Schedule

🧠 Mental health = daily brain maintenance is a necessity.

⚖️ Balance “go mode” and “restore mode” to avoid burnout.

🌅 Morning = start your day before the day rushes in.

  • Start with a 30 second foundation build awareness
  • Try 3 intentional breathes while making coffee
  • Or try a quick body scan while getting dressed
  • This engages your prefrontal cortex that regulates emotion and thoughtful decisions

🕛 Midday = This is when your nervous system starts to fray.

  • Scrolling isn’t rest—choose real recovery
  • Step outside, eat mindfully, stretch or walk
  • Try box breathing: 4-inhale, 4-hold, 4-exhale, 4-hold

🚶‍♀️ Movement clears stress!
