| | National Grant to Expand Free Arts Classes for Hundreds More Delaware Seniors | | |
“The class was a perfect way to have fun with people my own age and make new friends,” wrote one Delaware woman after completing a free eight-week art workshop at her local library. She is one of more than 400 older Delawareans who have taken part in Access Creative Aging since 2022 – and thanks to new national funding secured by the Delaware Division of the Arts, hundreds more are set to follow.
The Delaware Division of the Arts (DDOA) has secured $77,500 through Creative Aging, Creative Futures, a joint initiative of the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies (NASAA) and E.A. Michelson Philanthropy. The program builds upon the success of two previous initiatives: Leveraging State Investments in Creative Aging and States Leading Creative Aging. These vital investments have strengthened creative aging issue leadership for state arts agencies, expanded arts opportunities for older adults, and enhanced expertise in creative aging program delivery.

On the Mezzanine:
Alan B. Tuttle's Passing through...
The Delaware Division of the Arts’ Mezzanine Gallery is pleased to present Passing through…, a solo exhibition of paintings by Alan B. Tuttle, on view September 11-25, 2026. An opening reception will be held Friday, September 11, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Mezzanine Gallery, located in the Carvel State Office Building at 820 N. French Street, Wilmington. Admission is free and open to the public.
The paintings in Passing through… grow out of Tuttle’s daily experience and his attention to the world around him, from the natural landscape to the social and political currents of the moment. He is drawn to both fleeting and lasting moments, and he wants the work to stir contemplation, wonder, awe, and sometimes discomfort while holding onto its beauty. His subjects rarely repeat. He does not try to recreate yesterday’s inspiration, but follows whatever catches his eye or his mind at a given moment.
