Thank you to those who attended Biofest 2026, Nuts and Bolts: Taking Care of Business!

It has been a great week in Chelan, full of education and community! We hope to see you next year for Biofest. Please save the dates for Sunday, October 3, 2027 – Tuesday, October 5, 2027 at Skamania Lodge, Stevenson, WA.

Feat. Janine Burke-Wells

Janine Burke-Wells does not have what you would call the biosolids dream job. She is the director of NEBRA- the North East Biosolids and Residuals Association. This is perhaps the least biosolids friendly region of the country. Hear about how she navigates this landscape and still manages to be one of the leaders in our field.

I get it. I love biosolids with all of my heart. But sometimes the seemingly never-ending concerns/ questions can wear you down. If PFAS every calms down, will microplastics be the next looming concern? For some municipalities, in some places, it can seem like combustion is the only alternative that will really and truly make the migraines go away. Especially when combustion is sold as beneficial use and comes with a new name: pyrolysis or gasification.
