Celebrating 30 Years Together

As we celebrate Take Stock in Children Nassau’s 30th anniversary, we reflect on how much has been accomplished since this work began in 1997. What started with a commitment to create greater opportunities for Nassau County students has grown into three decades of mentoring relationships, scholarships, milestones, graduations, and young people discovering what is possible for their futures.

Over the last 30 years, Take Stock has helped over 800 students and awarded more than $9 million in scholarship dollars. Today, 154 Take Stock scholars are enrolled in middle and high schools across Nassau County and we are proud that 100% of students who complete our program graduate from high school. Even better, our student's success continues past their high school graduation with 92% enrolling in college or certificate programs since 2021 - and 83% of them persisting through and graduating from those programs.

Those numbers are worth celebrating—but the real story is everything behind the numbers. It’s the mentor who shows up week after week. The student who becomes the first in their family to step onto a college campus. The donor whose generosity turns into a scholarship. The school partner who helps us reach a student who needs an opportunity. And the families, volunteers, board members, and community partners who have believed in this mission year after year.

This 30th anniversary belongs to all of you. You have helped build the legacy we are celebrating, and we are incredibly grateful to have you alongside us as we begin the next chapter.

Here’s to 30 years of opening doors, building relationships, and believing in Nassau County students—and to all that we will achieve together in the years ahead.

Student Recruitment

TSIC Nassau is excited to announce its search for the next generation of scholars who exemplify both academic promise and economic need. This opportunity is open to 7th, 8th, 9th or 10th graders from Nassau County and includes public virtual school or private school via the Florida Empowerment Scholarship program. This is a remarkable chance for students to unlock their potential and embark on a transformative educational experience to break the cycle of poverty. This month's student-mentor spotlight features mentor Stuart Klein and his mentee, Caleb Wiening, from Yulee High School. The two have been matched since October 2024.

Stuart Klein - Mentor

What do you consider to be your hometown? How long have you lived in Nassau County?

I grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania. We moved to Nassau County in 2015, so we’ve lived here for 11 years.

What made you decide to mentor with Take Stock?

My wife and I attended the TSIC Gala in 2023 and we were blown away by the featured student-turned-mentor. It was so impactful that we decided to get involved first with financial support and then as mentors

How many students have you mentored?

Caleb is my first mentee.

What have you gained from mentoring Caleb?

Caleb is a bright and hard working student who has been an absolute joy to mentor. My own son is now in his early thirties so it’s been quite a while since I’ve had to deal with high school aged students. It’s been fun to once again serve as a sounding board to hopefully help Caleb navigate the many challenges facing students.

Why did you want to apply for Take Stock?

I applied for Take Stock to be a part of a group and to help lead me in a direction for a better future.

What have you learned from your relationship with your mentor, Stuart?

I have learned a lot about his careers and the journeys he's done. I've also learned good tips and advice for things I can do to help myself out.

What is your favorite memory from TSIC?

Talking to my mentor, Mr. Stuart, and doing the Shrimp Fest parades.

What are your plans after you graduate from high school and TSIC?

Take some classes on mechanical engineering or automotive classes and go to college or try trade school.
