Patriot Day

When: September 11th

Twenty-five years ago, on September 11th, the US experienced four coordinated terrorist attacks. Now referred to as Patriot Day, we remember not only the lives lost, but also the heroism of the first responders and citizens, a recognition of the continuing impacts of the event, and a continuing cry for peace in our times. You can still read the bishops’ pastoral message in the days after 9/11 here: https://www.usccb.org/resources/pastoral-message-living-faith-and-hope-after-september-11

Prayer: Our faith is one built on stories. We need stories and human experiences in order to learn about God. Visit https://www.usccb.org/resources/911-reflections-and-remembrances and read the stories of several first-hand testimonies, fueled by faith.

Action: Create a care package for your local first responders, thanking them for their daily sacrifices.

Almsgiving: Patriotism means having a reasonable love and esteem for one’s own country. It involves caring for the vulnerable of that country, calling the country to improve and be better in its fallen aspects, and welcoming all to enjoy the hospitality of that country. The Knights of Columbus call its participants to care for the country in many ways. Donate today at https://www.kofc.org/get-involved/donate/

Rosary for Immigrants

When: September 23rd, 12:00 p.m.

Where: 2345 Grand Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64108

In this moment of extreme uncertainty for immigrant and refugee communities, we turn to our faith and to Mary for strength, compassion and solidarity. Mary, as the mother of our Savior defends the vulnerable.

The Catholic Bishops of the United States, in their pastoral letter Welcoming the Stranger Among Us: Unity in Diversity, invite us to enter into the mystery of the Mystical Body of Christ. In their pastoral letter, the Bishops challenge us to embrace our sisters and brothers through four calls: conversion, communion, solidarity, and evangelization. We invite you to pray the rosary with us for vulnerable people on the move.

Prayer to End Threats to Human Dignity in the State of Missouri

When: Ongoing through October 25th

Bishop Johnston has asked for a 9-month novena on the 25th of each month starting in February. The novena is intended to encourage prayer to end the threats to human dignity in the state of Missouri. Bishop Johnston specifically requests prayer related to continuing concerns in our community impacting immigrant families amid the ongoing surge in deportation efforts. Additionally, later this year, voters in Missouri will once again be asked to address abortion laws in our state, particularly the loosening of restrictions that have long protected women in Missouri. We will be sharing more on this issue in the coming months, asking the faithful to vote "yes" on Amendment 3 in 2026.

If your parish would like an order of printed prayer cards, please contact Chelsea Voboril. In the meantime, you may download a digital file of the prayer card HERE
