Giving Back to Youth

After facing ongoing challenges last year, Mr. Kelly was referred to Liberation Veteran Services (LVS). With support from his LVS Case Manager, he developed a structured plan for success, taking advantage of every available resource in our program. His hard work paid off when he secured permanent housing in the spring of 2026.

Reflecting on all he has overcome, Mr. Kelly chose to reconnect with his first passion: giving back to youth through reading. A member of the 100 Men Ready Program at St. Paul’s Baptist Church, he resumed reading to students at area elementary schools. (see photo above)

Mr. Kelly expressed that his heart was filled with joy—not only because he earned the keys to his new home, but also because he was able to reconnect with young students and make a positive impact once again.

“When life turned south, LVS allowed me to take a pause and regroup to get my life back on track,” he shared. Congratulations to Mr. Kelly on his resilience, growth, and renewed commitment to his community!

Truist Deborah Sampson and Michelle Morency

The Generosity of our Community

For many years, Deborah Sampson and Michelle Morency of Truist Bank have generously shared their time and expertise by teaching financial literacy classes at LVS. Through their guidance, our Veterans gained valuable knowledge and practical skills to help them build greater financial confidence and stability.

As Deborah and Michelle retire from Truist, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for their dedication, compassion, and lasting impact on the Veterans we serve. We wish them both much happiness and fulfillment in this exciting new chapter.

You've probably attended the Richmond Bluegrass Jam- the annual event featuring 20 bluegrass and Americana bands on multiple stages at American Legion Post 354 in Midlothian, VA.

This event was created to help military Veterans and families, and LVS is honored to be a beneficiary since 2023.

In August, RVA Bluegrass Jam Board Chairman Tim Gundlach came to Veterans Village to present this year's very generous check.

We are deeply grateful for their partnership in this work to create a lasting and meaningful difference in the lives of Veterans in need.
