A Message from the City Manager:
Dear Agoura Hills Community,
As we welcome September, my theme for this month’s newsletter is emergency preparedness. September is National Emergency Preparedness Month, and it is a great opportunity to take a few minutes to think about how prepared you and your household are for an emergency.
Throughout this newsletter, you’ll find a number of helpful resources and preparedness tools. I encourage you to take a few minutes today to review them with your household. Whether it’s creating a family emergency plan, putting together a Go-Bag, knowing your evacuation routes, or signing up for emergency alerts, the small steps you take today can make a big difference tomorrow.
Our team is also working hard to find new ways to help our community prepare and stay informed. We are developing a dedicated emergency dashboard that will make it easier for residents to find timely updates, emergency information, resources, and important links all in one accessible place. We are also working on an emergency preparedness app that will put preparedness checklists and resources right at your fingertips on your phone, so you can access them when you need them, even when you may not have internet access. Stay tuned!
As we look ahead, we also want to keep our community informed about the National Core development in Agoura Hills at 29125 Agoura Rd . With construction expected to begin later this year, we are committed to transparency and keeping residents updated as it moves forward. We know housing and the future growth of our community are important concerns for many residents. This newsletter includes more information.
We are excited to announce that Reyes Adobe Days is returning October 2–4. This beloved Agoura Hills tradition brings our community together to celebrate our history, culture, and the people who make our City so special. Save the date. We can’t wait to see you there!
This month, I encourage you to take a few minutes to prepare your household, explore the resources included in this newsletter, and talk with your family about what you would do in an emergency. The best time to prepare is now. Together, we can make Agoura Hills a safer, stronger, and more prepared community.

The Time to Prepare for Emergencies is NOW
Here in Agoura Hills, it’s important to prepare for the emergencies that could affect California and our community, including wildfires, earthquakes, and severe storms and flooding. You may have also heard about El Niño in the news, which can bring wetter conditions and increased rainfall to Southern California during the fall and winter months.

Ask yourself: If an emergency happened today, would you know what to do?
The time you take now to prepare can help you and your family respond with greater confidence when it matters most. Start with the essentials:

Build a Go-Bag with food, water, medications, important documents, chargers, and other essentials.

Make a family emergency plan and discuss where you will go, how you will communicate, and what you’ll do if you are separated.

Sign up for emergency alerts so you can receive critical information about evacuation orders, road closures, severe weather, and other emergencies.

Know your evacuation zones and identify multiple ways to leave your neighborhood.
- Prepare your home by reducing wildfire risks and securing items that could become hazards during an earthquake or severe storm.
- Check on your neighbors, especially those who may need additional assistance during an emergency.
Preparedness doesn’t have to happen all at once. Take one step today, another tomorrow, and keep building from there. A little preparation now can save valuable time and potentially save lives when an emergency happens.

What is El Niño?
When watching the news, you you hear about this a lot! El Niño is a climate pattern caused by warmer-than-normal ocean temperatures in the tropical Pacific that can influence weather patterns across the globe.
For Southern California, El Niño often means a greater chance of wetter-than-normal conditions, although it does not guarantee a rainy winter or predict exactly when storms will occur.
For Agoura Hills and the greater Los Angeles region, increased rainfall can mean a greater potential for flash flooding, roadway flooding, debris flows, mudslides and storm-related impacts, particularly in areas near hillsides. Before these rainy conditions arrive, it is important to:
- Clear leaves and debris from gutters, storm drains and drainage areas around your property.
- Check your roof, gutters and downspouts for leaks or damage.
- Secure outdoor furniture and loose items that could be moved by strong winds.
- Know your evacuation routes, especially if you live near the Santa Monica Mountains or other hillside areas.
- Sign up for emergency alerts and keep your emergency supplies stocked.

Save the Date: Reyes Adobe Days 2026
Mark your calendars! One of Agoura Hills' most beloved traditions is just around the corner. The 22nd Annual Reyes Adobe Days returns October 2–4, 2026, bringing three days of community celebration, local history, family fun, and hometown spirit.
This year's festivities will once again feature signature events including Night at the Adobe, the Reyes Adobe Days Parade, the Festival at Reyes Adobe Park, the RAD Run, live entertainment, artisan vendors, children's activities, food, and much more. Whether you're continuing a family tradition or attending for the first time, there's something for everyone to enjoy throughout the weekend.

Join Agoura Hills CERT for upcoming training opportunities and learn the skills you need to help yourself, your family, and your community when it matters most.
CERT training covers important emergency readiness skills, including disaster preparedness, first aid and disaster medical operations, fire safety, light search and rescue, and more.

NEW Online Picnic Shelter Reservations
The City of Agoura Hills Department of Community Services has moved to allowing Picnic Shelter reservations to be reserved online.
Sumac Park, Morrison Park, Forest Cove Park, and Reyes Adobe Park picnic shelters only are all now available to be rented using the City’s online system!
You can visit the link below and go to Facility Rentals to reserve your picnic shelter. Reservations must be completed two weeks prior to your event date.

Information on NationalCORE Development
Construction of National CORE’s 54-unit affordable housing development at 29125 Agoura Road is anticipated to begin later this year, with completion expected in early 2028. The development will provide housing for working families and include two- and three-bedroom apartments, a community center, children’s play area, fitness room, outdoor gathering spaces, and supportive resident services.
We know housing and future development are important topics for our community. As construction approaches, the City is committed to transparency and keeping residents informed about the project, the planning process, and public safety considerations. The City will continue to provide updates and opportunities for residents to learn more as the project moves forward.
Join us on September 15 in front of City Hall (30001 Ladyface Court) for Coffee with a Planner to learn more from our team about housing in Agoura Hills and this specific development by National Core.
