Issue 3 Volume 3 September 2026

Strengthening the lives of at-risk youth and young adults so they may be mentally healthy and receive needed mental health programming and support.

SEPTEMBER IS SUICIDE PREVENTION MONTH

September is Suicide Prevention Month, a time to promote action, raise awareness and spread hope.

Responding to Suicide Comments from Youth

When a young person says, “I’m thinking about suicide,” what do you say? Experts tell us how we respond matters

Supportive responses can help the person feel understood, cared for, and reassure them that their life matters. Unsupportive responses such as panic, anger, blame, or lectures can make a person feel judged, criticized, or feel that they are selfish or causing problems.

We should immediately communicate safety and have a willingness to listen. Above all, take suicidal thoughts seriously.

Suicide Signs Not to Miss

Warning signs are not always so obvious like “I want to die” or “the world would be better without me.” Instead, the signs could be more subtle, and they can easily be mistaken for typical teenage behavior.

Your child may not look depressed. But maybe you notice they are more irritable or unusually anxious. They may start picking fights, snapping at family members, or reacting intensely to things that previously wouldn't have bothered them.

Read the full article to learn common signs you may be observing at home or in school that are big warning signs to address.

You don't have to be certain that something is wrong before reaching out.

Myth vs Fact

Have you ever been concerned that a person may be suicidal?

It is a common belief that suicide only affects individuals with mental health conditions. If that is not a diagnosis, should you worry?

Looking back, have you ever doubted your suspicions because you think people who talk about suicide are just looking for attention? Maybe you always believed that talking about suicide will lead to or encourage suicide.

Click below to read more about these widespread myths and facts about suicide. Become more vigilant to keep your children safe, no matter what their age!

Anniversary Party

This summer marked three years since the establishment of Meg’s Legacy, and the anniversary party at Phase Three Brewery was an amazing celebration! Bringing together so many supporters for the summer bash is a true testament that our community shares the mission to improve mental health for our youth.

Happily, many guests had the opportunity to meet some of the awarded grantees and hear more about the important work our foundation helps fund. Everyone enjoyed excellent food, drinks and live music while supporting a great cause.
