Seeking Resonance Over Relevance
An in-person retreat
Friday, Nov 6 - Sunday, Nov 8, 2026
St. Paul's, Flint, Michigan
$50 - for event and hotel room.
This event is through a partnership of the Society of St. John the Evangelist (SSJE) and Province V. We will begin with dinner on Friday and end with lunch on Sunday.
This is a retreat for all young adults, those ministering with young adults, and those hoping to create ministries with young adults. Registration will open September 1. The registration fee is greatly reduced because of SSJE's Abiding Hope Grant. More information about this program and partnership.

On-line Fall 2026 Campus Ministry Cohort
From Chasing Relevance to Encountering Resonance
An on-line learning experience - September - December 2026
Purpose: To equip and prepare worshiping communities to engage Institutions of Higher Learning in their local ministry context. IHLs include community colleges, trade schools, professional schools, colleges and universities.
Vision: What would it look like for TEC worshiping communities to embody a way of keeping evangelism and discipleship, outreach and spiritual formation deeply intertwined as we live out our corporate life together in the world? How might our understanding of ministry alongside emerging generations be transformed when we learn to repent of seeing college students and young adults as resources that can make the church youthful and relevant again, and instead, receive them as fellow children of God that we encounter and learn from in resonant relationship through Jesus Christ?
Who: Congregational Leaders (lay and clergy) interested in sharing in Christ's ministry on campus.
What's Included:
- 6 Interactive Zoom Gatherings on Thursday Evenings, (9/24, 10/8, 10/22, 11/5, 11/19, 12/3 from 7:30-9 pm ET / 6:30-8 pm CT ).
- These gatherings will include:
- Best Practices for engaging students on campus and welcoming them into the life of the church.
- Training & Resources focused on embodied, contextual approaches to hospitality, evangelism, and discipleship.
- Practical Steps for building trusting relationships with all IHL Stakeholders (students, faculty, staff, & alumni).
- Breakout Rooms for sharing, processing, & celebrating what we are learning along the way.
- Between Gatherings:
- You will be given tools and tasks to accomplish together with your team & report back to the cohort.
- Access to our Cohort Substack to access resources, ask questions, and share ministry experiences.
- 4 Monthly Coaching Sessions with Province V's Campus Ministry Developer (can be utilized in Fall 2026 or Spring 2027).
Cost: FREE to worshiping communities inside Province V! Congregations from outside the province can join for a fee.

Provincial Youth Event Report
Sixty-one youth and 15 adult participants from five dioceses gathered in Kalamazoo, Michigan, for the Provincial Youth Event. Together, we explored our identities as Episcopalians and considered what our Baptismal Covenant calls us to be and do. We dug into what living into "I will, with God's help" looks like in our communities and congregations.
Through songs, Compline, volleyball, bowling, arcade time, and board games, we built community and deepened our connections with one another. Participants engaged in Big Provincial Gathering workshops, led worship, and took part in service projects.
It was a beautiful opportunity to gather, grow, serve, and get to know other young people from across the Province.

Leadership Coaching Project

Coaching is a dialogue between a coach and an individual, group, or team to find creative ways to solve challenging problems or improve team performance on key initiatives.
The coach's role is to draw out expertise through inquiry, curiosity, and challenges so that clients can stretch into their best selves.
Lay leaders, deacons, priests, and bishops are all invited to consider coaching. The focus on coaching will always be generated by the coachee; the coach is a partner who listens deeply and asks powerful questions to help the coachee set attainable and timely goals.

"Celebrating the Season of Creation"
with The Rev. Jay
Emerson Johnson, PhD
Please join us on September 14 as our guest, Fr. Jay Johnson, shares the ways he and his parish have discovered how the Season of Creation invites the integration of multiple concerns to Christians, including social and economic justice, with care for creation. Jay will discuss how his parish in Saugatuck, Michigan, has expanded their celebration of the Season over the years, starting with awareness-building and connecting the dots to their faith. You will find Jay's enthusiasm for celebrating the Season contagious.
Jay is a priest in The Episcopal Church and a Christian theologian. Since May 2020, Jay has served as the rector of All Saints’ Parish in Saugatuck, MI. Before moving to Saugatuck, Jay taught on the faculty at Pacific School of Religion and the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA for more than twenty-five years. During that time he served as the Programming Director of the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion at PSR and coordinated the school’s Certificate of Sexuality and Religion program, while also chairing the Theology and Ethics Department in the doctoral program of the GTU. Jay has led workshops and has been a popular retreat facilitator throughout the United States and also internationally.
When not otherwise occupied, Jay enjoys volunteer crewing on a Great Lakes tall ship during the summer months and hiking with River, his Australian shepherd dog companion. Learn more about Jay and his writings at his website, Peculiar Faith.

Healthy Congregations Leadership Series
The Healthy Congregations 2026-27 Leadership Series begins September 17-18, 2026. This year’s series, Growing Thoughtful Leaders for Stronger Communities, is an opportunity for leaders across professions to apply principles of systems thinking to self, family, and organizations. The year is composed of monthly seminars that promote in-depth thinking through the lens of Bowen Family Systems Theory. The seminars include plenary presentations, practical application of systems theory to the workplace and family, and small group coaching. Bias is a pervasive part of our lives, often shaping our thoughts and actions without realizing it. We all carry biases. While our preferences for a favorite sports team or restaurant are harmless, implicit bias can influence how we relate to one another in ways that don't match our values or our call to follow Jesus.
As people of faith, we are called to honor the dignity of every human being and build communities rooted in love, justice, and belonging. Recognizing our unconscious or implicit biases is an important step toward living more faithfully together.
Joining us will be special guests Dr. Catherine Meeks, author of the new book, Bridging the River of Difference: A Proclamation of Unity in Resistance, and Heidi J. Kim, executive director of The Episcopal Coalition for Racial Equity and Justice.
This Summit is presented by the Beloved Community Commission and LGBTQ+ Ministries of the Diocese of Southern Ohio.

Plainsong is a living laboratory where young adults ages 21-32 can experiment with how to pray, belong, rest, and play, while growing food for neighbors in the Rouge River Watershed. Northern Michigan Fall Visitor’s Weekend!
Oct. 22-26, 2026
Visitors Weekend is a longstanding tradition in the Diocese of Northern Michigan welcoming guests to immerse themselves in an ecclesiology of baptismal ministry.
This is an opportunity to visit local congregations, talk with diocesan staff and missioners, explore new ministry initiatives (such as U.P. Wild Church, and Healing with our Indigenous neighbors), and engage with others who are passionate about a collaborative way of being engaged in the work of Jesus.
Visitors should plan to arrive by Thursday evening. An introduction to our practice of mutual ministry with conversation will take place Friday morning through early afternoon. All are invited to participate in a convention workshop on Living Stories Sermons on Friday afternoon, followed by the Eucharist, and then to experience our collaborative approach to Convention on Saturday. Sunday morning, visitors are invited to attend one of our congregations to experience how our approach looks in our regular, local contexts. Sunday afternoon we hope to have an opportunity to experience U.P. Wild Church, our new, locally led spiritual communities that are growing quickly in at least seven places around the Upper Peninsula, in a unique partnership with the ELCA. We will then have time for reflection, conversation, and supper.

This December, during the sacred waiting of Advent, Bellwether Farm invites you to write your own icon of Our Lady of Tenderness — one of the most beloved images in the history of Christian art, depicting the tender embrace of Mary and the Christ child, cheek to cheek.
No artistic experience is required. Only a willingness to slow down, pay attention, and let the work of your hands become the work of your spirit.

DeKoven Center
Building Foundations: Learning Through Hospitality
At DeKoven Center, hospitality is about more than preparing a meal or setting a table. Through our Building Foundations teaching program, it is also an opportunity to help young people and adults gain practical job skills, confidence, and experience in a real working environment.
Participants learn alongside DeKoven staff in food service, commercial kitchen work, dining room service, housekeeping, and hospitality. Along the way, they practice teamwork, responsibility, and what it means to welcome and serve others with care.
For us, Building Foundations is not separate from DeKoven’s ministry of hospitality—it is an extension of it. The same kitchen that serves retreat guests can also become a classroom, creating opportunities for mentorship, learning, and growth.
DeKoven also offers Pizza Fundraisers for churches, nonprofits, and community groups. Organizations pre-sell pizzas and then work alongside our staff to prepare their orders, raising funds for their own mission while sharing in the spirit of cooperation and community that shapes our teaching programs.
