News and Updates

Flu Vaccine Clinic for residents 65 and older - The Brookline Department of Public Health and Human Services is holding a flu clinic at the Brookline Senior Center on Tuesday, September 24th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. This clinic will only offer the high-dose vaccine to residents ages 65 and older. Registration is required. Please bring your insurance and Medicare cards, along with a form of ID. Wear short sleeves or a loose-fitting shirt. If you are feeling unwell, experiencing respiratory symptoms, or have a fever, please stay home. Register here.


Robinson Playground Re-Opening Saturday, September 27 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM - Join the Parks and Open Space Division in celebrating the re-opening of Margaret E Robinson Playground. Families, neighbors and friends are encouraged to pack their own picnic and blanket, explore the new playground and stay for refreshments, lawn games, and an outdoor showing of The Lorax! This free movie starts at roughly 7:15 PM

Executive Session - Executive session, pursuant to G.L. c. 30A, ยง 21(a)(3) ("Purpose 3"), for the purpose of discussing strategy with respect to potential litigation that is clearly and imminently threatened by Chabad Lubavitich at Chestnut Hill, involving property at 90 and 100 Bellingham Road.

  • Grant from MassDot in the amount of $92,050.00 for flexposts and in-street pedestrian signs. 
  • Donation from Briseidy Borgos of Dracut, MA in the amount of $800 for supplies for the Therapeutic Recreation Division.
  • Hire request from the DPW/Water & Sewer Dept for a Carpenter.
  • Brookline Rotary's request to place signs in various locations related to the annual Brookline Dog Day event. Signs will be placed beginning October 1 and will be removed by October 27, 2024. 
  • One-Day Entertainment License for Arts Brookline/Brookline Music School's Porchfest event on September 28, 2028 (11:00AM-6:00PM). 

Boards and Commissions Interviews - The following candidates for Boards and Commissions will interview with the Select Board:

November Election - Question of approving the following actions related to the November 2024 State Election: 

Warrant Articles - Public Hearing, discussion and possible vote on the following warrant articles for the November 19, 2024 Special Town Meeting:

  • Warrant Article 3 - Appropriation of Transportation Network Company (TNC) funds. 
  • Warrant Article 4 - Accept Chapter 59, Section 5N of the General Laws, allowing for the creation of a Veteran's Tax Work-Off Reduction program.
  • Warrant Article 17 - Petition for a special act allowing the Town to disqualify bidders that engage in the design, manufacturing or maintenance of nuclear weapons.

Boards and Commissions - Presentation by the Chair of the Small Business Development Committee of the Committee's Annual Report to the Select Board. 


Outdoor Dining - Presentation of information and recommendations related to the Outdoor Dining Program. 


Marijuana Retail Establishment License - Question of accepting the return of the Brookline Marijuana Retailer Establishment License from Mission MA, Inc and voiding the Host Community Agreement between the Town and Mission MA, Inc.

Miscellaneous - The Board approved the following miscellaneous items, licenses, and contracts. 

  • Petition from National Grid to install up to 150 feet of 4-inch plastic main extending from the existing 4-inch Bare Steel main in Marion St, Brookline. Install approximately 100 ft of 2-inch Plastic service extending from the existing newly proposed 4" Plastic main extension. 
  • Petition from NSTAR to construct a line of conduits and manholes under Harvard Street - Southeasterly then southwesterly from manhole 3672, at Columbia Street, to private property at 454 Harvard Street, install approximately 96 feet of conduit.
  • Petition from NSTAR to construct a line of conduits and manholes under Stedman Street - Southwesterly then southeasterly from manhole 12337, approximately 144 feet northeast of Harvard Street, to Pole 137/2, install approximately 21 feet of conduit. 
  • Petition from NSTAR to construct a line of conduits and manholes under the Goddard Avenue -Northeasterly from Pole 71/37, approximately 565โ€™ north of Meadowbrook Road, to new EV Cabinet, install approximately 183 feet of conduit.
  • Application for an All Alcoholic Beverages License and Alternate Manager for Cobble, LLC d/b/a Bartlette at 318 Harvard Street.

  • Appropriation transfer request from the Fire Department as follows: From: Personnel $46,227.64, Services $1,705.45, Supplies $3,125.91, and Other $1,263.21 to Utilities $52,322.21 
  • Change Order 14, with Miller Dyer Spears, in the amount of $22,687.50 for additional Geotech services along School Street to explore existing conditions.

The Board discussed and approved a hire request for the Council on Aging Director. 


The Board discussed and approved a policy prohibiting boards and commissions from co-sponsoring events with outside entities.

The Board discussed and approved updates to its Fiscal Policies and Procedures  (Free Cash, Reserves, Capital Improvement Plan, Unfunded Liabilities). 


Vision Plan - The Board discussed and provided guidance on revisions to a Request for Proposals to facilitate and create a Vision Plan. 


The Board discussed and provided guidance on the replacement of the skating rink at Larz Anderson Park and additional aquatics facilities. The Board voted to not move forward with a study for an outdoor pool. The Board also voted to support a design process for the construction of an outdoor, uncovered skating rink and pavilion at the current rink's location.
