A Message from the Director of Campus Ministry: |
Dear Carondelet Families,
Our students are hungry for opportunities to connect with one another and experience God’s love, and I am thrilled to take a few minutes to share some of what Campus Ministry does to respond to those desires in our students. With daily prayer, schoolwide liturgies, community service projects, social justice work, retreats, and more, our students have many choices to participate in activities that can deepen their spirituality. High school is a critical time for our young people to practice slowing down, being present, noticing God’s presence around them, and sharing God’s love with others. So how do we do that? Here are a few examples:
Our 9th grade students just spent an epic night on campus for their Alpha Retreat last Friday. They spent 20 hours unplugged from their phones and social media and plugged in to building memories with their classmates. On Wednesday, September 11, a small student group hosted their first “Rise and Reflect,” a casual and open space every other Wednesday morning for students to start their day with song, prayer, scripture, and/or faith sharing. The Justice group on Spiritual Life Council is already making plans for the Advent service and advocacy project they will kick off just after Thanksgiving and invite all of us to approach the holidays mindfully and with purpose.
And tomorrow, 50 seniors will leave for their Kairos Journey Retreat. This is Kairos 100, which means it will be the 100th Kairos retreat at Carondelet High School. Over 4,000 girls experienced this beautiful retreat as it has grown and evolved over the last few decades. It is a magical time set aside for deep exploration of self and God. It is a time for listening, reflecting, supporting, praying, singing, laughing, and sharing stories. On Kairos, students receive the gift of unifying love in a profound and concrete way and are invited to bring that gift back to everyone in their lives upon their return. Let’s all pray for our seniors on Kairos 100 this week—that their hearts are opened to the all-inclusive love of God!
As we continue to move through a busy school year, Campus Ministry will continue to offer opportunities to reflect, connect, serve, and pray. We look forward to accompanying each of your students on their spiritual journey. Thank you for entrusting your children to us and for partnering with us in their spiritual development and education!
In Unifying Love,
Edie Payne
Director of Campus Ministry
