Dear Friends:
The North wind doth blow and we shall have snow, and what will poor robin do then, poor thing? He'll sit in a barn and keep himself warm, and hide his head under his wing, poor thing.
That is a memory from long ago. But it does bring up the fact that cooler weather is approaching. Which brings me to knitting. I do a lot of knitting all year long, however, winter makes me think of yarn, lots of yarn. The awesome colors, shades, self-striping, bulky, fingering. I pretty much stay out of yarn shops, as my stash seems to grow without buying new.
I always have 3 or 4 projects going at once. No boredom here. It does keep things interesting. You would think I would be very organized, this item here, that item there. But no, it doesn't work that way. It's more like put this down, pick up that one and pretty soon the first item is buried.
What do I knit? Mittens by the dozens; they get sent to Colorado to be distributed all over the world, to refugees. Hats and scarves go there, too. Occasionally a sweater, mostly for me. Handbags, knitted and felted, then put in an auction, hoping to bring in money for a good cause. Many of these things warm the heart, as well as the person. Knitters at St. John's knit prayer shawls, which are then blessed and given to someone in need of comfort and prayer.
Knitting brings conversations, especially at airports. And socks are small enough to carry anywhere. Knitting brings new friends through classes, or just shopping for yarn. There isn't a knitter anywhere who doesn't like to share what he or she is making.
I did not send in a photo of Where I Saw God this Summer, but I see Him in my knitting, actually in other's work, as well. He is in the colors, stitches and patterns, and in the people who create these beautiful items. He is in the friendships knitting brings.

St. John's Garden Scholarship Program

We are looking for interested high school students to take advantage of this opportunity to be eligible for a $1,000 scholarship upon graduation. Just 25 hours of garden volunteer work required. Time may be accumulated from year to year and student need not be a member of St. John's.Call Norma Pappalardo 860-944-5541 to sign up.

St. John's Painting Party -Members of the congregation will be gathering this fall to paint the lower two thirds of the front of the church. (The top third will be professionally painted.) See Stan Moraski to join the party.
