Do you sit in church, listening to the sermon when the thought, “There’s something more here I’d like to share,” wells up in you? Are you engaged in the worship, ministry, Christian formation and leadership in your congregation? Do you love to be in conversation with others about scripture and what it means in our daily lives? Your Rector, Vicar or Priest-in-Charge can help you discern if you might be called to the ministry of Lay Preaching.
The West Coast Collaborative Episcopal School for Ministry provides lay and diaconal formation for members of the Dioceses of Northern California, El Camino Real, and San Diego. We are currently accepting applications for our 2025 course to prepare individuals for a Lay Preaching license.

Your Voice, Your Vote
A non-partisan series for the Episcopal Church about voting
By the Public Policy Advocacy Group at Trinity Cathedral
Think your vote doesn’t matter? Consider this:
- In 2016, a GOP House primary in Washington State was decided by just one vote.
- A Vermont state House seat that same year was also determined by a single vote out of 2,000.
- In 2006, an Alaskan Democratic primary was decided by a coin toss.
- Over 400 elections in 2021 and 2022 ended in ties or were decided by one vote, according to the Public Interest Legal Foundation.
Important: The last day to register for the November 5th election is October 21, 2024. If you miss this deadline, you can register at any Voting Location up to Election Day!

Screening of The Philadelphia Eleven on Sunday, September 29 in Davis
St. Martin's in Davis is hosting a free screening of The Philadelphia Eleven, a feature documentary chronicling the pioneers who overcame discrimination and rejection to become the first women ordained to the priesthood in the Episcopal Church.
The screening will take place on Sunday, September 29, at 4:00pm in the parish hall. There is no ticket charge, but donations will be accepted.
This film tells a story that continues to resonate today as women seeking ordination continue to face resistance, disrespect, and even exclusion from roles reserved by men for men. The documentary explores the lives of these remarkable women who succeeded in transforming an age-old institution despite the threats to their personal safety and the risk of rejection by the church they loved. These women became and remain an inspiration for generations of women in the ministry, and a clarion call for the entire Christian Church.
After the screening, refreshments will be served and there will be a brief discussion featuring ordained women discussing their own experiences, including the Rev. Dr. Pamela Dolan, rector of St. Martin’s, and the Rev. Mary Goshert Ekenstam, one of the first women ordained in the Episcopal Church in Northern California. If you are an ordained woman in our Diocese and would like to participate in the Q&A, please let Rev. Pamela know by contacting her at pamela@churchofstmartin.org.
